Job Title: Communications and Media Assistant
Locations: Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe
Job Summary
The Communications and Media Assistant will support the organization’s internal and external communications activities, ensuring consistent messaging, strong visibility, and effective storytelling across all platforms.
The role involves assisting with content creation, media engagement, digital communication, documentation, social media management, and administrative support to the Communications unit.
Key Responsibilities
Content Development & Documentation:
Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading communication materials, including articles, success stories, human-interest stories, reports, newsletters, press releases, and social media content.
Collect field updates, photos, videos, and beneficiary stories from program teams for communication purposes.
Support the development of visibility materials such as banners, flyers, advocacy materials, and briefs.
Maintain an organized archive of multimedia content (photos, videos, graphics).
Social Media & Digital Communication:
Assist in planning, scheduling, and managing social media posts across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
Monitor social media engagement, trends, and feedback; prepare weekly reports.
Support live-tweeting, event coverage, and real-time digital engagement during campaigns.
Upload videos, photos, and stories across digital channels, ensuring brand compliance.
Media Relations:
Assist in maintaining the media contact database.
Support in organizing media briefings, press conferences, and interviews.
Help draft media advisories and coordinate media visits to project sites.
Track media coverage and compile weekly or monthly media monitoring reports.
Graphic Design & Multimedia Production:
Assist in basic graphic design for flyers, posters, social media cards, infographics, and event materials.
Support photography and videography during field missions and organizational events.
Help with basic video editing and photo processing for communication outputs.
Internal Communication:
Support the development of internal newsletters, updates, and communication with staff.
Maintain communication notice boards, digital screens, and internal WhatsApp channels.
Assist in promoting internal staff events, meetings, and campaigns.
Event and Campaign Support:
Provide support during advocacy campaigns, donor visits, trainings, workshops, and outreach events.
Assist with logistics related to communication activities such as printing, media coordination, and distribution of visibility materials.
Participate in planning awareness days (e.g., 16 Days of Activism, World Health Day, Global Handwashing Day).
Administrative & Reporting Support:
Support in preparing monthly communication reports.
Help track visibility and communication materials.
Assist in maintaining compliance with donor branding and communication guidelines.
Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Degree in Communications, Mass Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
Experience:
1–3 years’ experience in communications, media, digital content creation, or a similar role (NGO experience is an advantage).
Demonstrable experience in social media management or basic design.
