Accountability Assistants at Youth Integrated For Positive Development Initiative (YIPDI) - 3 Openings

Youth Integrated For Positive Development Initiative is a youth-led organization established on the 26th day of March 2014. The organization is providing humanitarian assistance to the conflict-affected and marginalized group especially vulnerable women, children, youths, and elderly, by protecting their rights, restoring their means of livelihood, and provision of basic education, water sanitation, and hygiene, food security as well as shelter including women and youth empowerment. 

We work closely together with young people, their families, community, stakeholders, partner organization donors, and community stakeholders at grass root level, thereby mobilizing resources to support our project in diverse areas of human development, addressing critical developmental challenges facing young people and their society through community based approach as well as youth lead initiative to achieve a durable solution.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Accountability Assistant

Location: Gubio, Magumeri, Gajiganna - Borno
Job type: Full-time (Onsite)
Sector: MEAL
Report to: MEAL Manager
Duration: 12 Months with possibilities of extension

Role Purpose

  • The Accountability assistant will support the implementation of accountability mechanisms and ensure that all feedback from stakeholders is handled effectively.
  • This role involves assisting with the management of accountability systems, data collection, and reporting.
  • This role aims to ensure that the voices of children and communities are heard, respected, and acted upon in a timely and effective manner.
  • In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

Child Safeguarding

  • The post holder will have contact with the beneficiaries and stakeholders frequently (e.g. once a week or more) or intensively (e.g. four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

Key Areas of Accountabilities
Accountability System:

  • Support the Accountability Coordinator in the development and implementation of accountability strategies and mechanisms.
  • Perform administrative tasks related to accountability activities, such as scheduling meetings, preparing documents, and maintaining records.
  • Under the supervision of ACC coordinator, coordinate with other departments and teams to ensure the smooth implementation of accountability initiatives.

Feedback and Response Mechanism (FRM):

  • Collect, record, and manage data related to beneficiary feedback, concerns, and inquiries received from the various channels, including feedback boxes, online form, helpline, social media and Accountability FGDs.
  • Manage the FRM Database for proper feedback tracking, ensuring accurate data entry, categorization, referral and timely responses.
  • Assist Accountability Coordinator in ensuring feedback is addressed in line with the organization's Feedback Handling Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Conduct field visits as necessary to monitor data collection and ensure proper placement of feedback boxes and signage in supported facilities.
  • Support Accountability coordinator in ensuring that accountability data is collected routinely throughout the project cycle, enabling corrective action.
  • Support Accountability Coordinator in FRM data analysis and suggest recommendations to support better program implementation or decision-making process.
  • Assist Accountability Coordinator in the preparation of reports on accountability activities, including feedback trends and response actions.

Information sharing:

  • Support Accountability Coordinator in the development of information sharing/communications plans and tools for disseminating messages to affected communities in simple, easily understood terms, and accessible and preferred languages and formats.
  • Support Accountability Coordinator in the development and dissemination of information sharing materials such as IEC materials and FAQs, ensuring they are child friendly, inclusive.

Participation:

  • Support the organization of community meetings and accountability FGDs to gather feedback.
  • Assist in the facilitation of child and community participation in program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Document the outcomes of participatory processes and ensure they are integrated into program decisions and improvements.

Capacity Building:

  • Support in providing training and support to staff and partners on accountability processes and tools.
  • Assist in developing materials and resources for capacity-building activities.

Referrals:

  • Support in ensuring that service mappings on RIMS are up to date.
  • Support staff in using RIMS in YIPDI.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g. Development Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Social Work, International Relations, or related fields).
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.

Experience and Skills:
Essential:

  • Experience with feedback handling systems is an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills in English and Hausa 
  • Demonstrated basic knowledge of accountability mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated strong experience with database entry and management, with attention to details.
  • Personal and organizational skills, including time management and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer literacy, with good level of proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from various groups and background.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and adapt to changing environments.
  • Commitment to child rights and safeguarding principles.

Desirable:

  • Proficiency in data collection, management and report writing.
  • Experience with feedback handling systems is an advantage.
  • Experience working for an NGO, civil society organization or similar.
  • Knowledge of local context and community dynamics.
  • Experience in training and capacity-building activities.
