National Hospital Abuja was originally designed to cater for the needs of women and children in Nigeria and the West African sub-region with a view to reduce morbidity and mortality rates, and to carry out extensive research into the peculiar causes of women and children- related diseases in Africa.
However, in order for the vast majority of Nigerians to benefit from the services and modern equipment in the Hospital, the scope of its operation was expanded to accomodate male patients. Initially christened ‘National Hospital For Women And Children’, the National Hospital, Abuja’ came into effect from 10 May 2000.

Job Description and Responsibilities
The Director of Finance & Accounts shall be the Principal Financial Adviser to the Chief Medical Director and the Board of the Hospital.
In addition, the Director of Finance & Accounts shall:
Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all financial operations, ensuring alignment with the Hospital's mission and objective
Lead the preparation, implementation, and monitoring of annual budgets; analyze variances and recommend corrective actions;
Ensure strict adherence to Government Financial Regulations, implement internal controls;
Prepare and present accurate financial statements and reports to Management Board
Oversee billing, collection, and management of Hospital revenues; develop strategies to optimize revenue stream
Authorize and monitor payments and disbursements to ensure proper documentation and compliance with budgetary provisions
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate finance and accounts staff;
Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial management information systems
Serve as Principal Financial Adviser to the Chief Medical Director and the Board; liaise with external stakeholders on financial matters;
Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Medical Director or the Board.
Qualification and Experience
Candidates must possess a good bachelor's degree in accounting from a recognized University:
Candidates must be a member of relevant professional body in Finance & Accounts (Le. ICAN, ANAN, etc):
Candidates must have not less than twenty (20) years of post-qualification cognate experience.
Candidates must be a Deputy Director of Finance & Accounts in Public Service
Candidates must bit strong financial and accounting knowledge.
ICT compliance is required.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Salary and conditions of service shall be in accordance with the Public Service salary structure for this category of officers.
Tenure:
The Director of Finance & Accounts shall hold office effective from the date of appointment inclusive of any period previously served as a Director in any other organization in the Public Service, provided the officer does not attain the mandatory retirement age of Sixty (60) years or thirty-Five (35) years of service (whichever comes first) and on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.
