Job Title: Senior Petroleum Accountant

Summary
To lead petroleum accounting, revenue reporting, and cost allocation for the company's upstream assets.
The role ensures financial integrity across production, lifting, royalty. and JV cost processes.
The Senior Petroleum Accountant provides accurate, timely reporting to management, partners, and regulators, ensuring compliance with contractual and fiscal obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Production and Revenue Accounting:
Supervise monthly reconciliation of crude oil and gas production, liftings, and sales volumes across swamp and offshore fields.
Validate production allocation between JV partners, royalty, and cost oil/gas entitlements.
Liaise with operations, marketing, and terminal operators to confirm lifting schedules and realized revenues.
Maintain accurate production and revenue records aligned with NUPRC/NMDPRA reporting standards.
Support management in price realization analysis and variance reporting.
Cost and JV Accounting:
Monitor cost recovery and prepare JV billing statements in accordance with joint operating agreements.
Review cost allocations, accruals, and overhead distributions to ensure transparency and fairness among partners.
Support audit processes (JV, internal, external, and regulatory) with accurate, reconciled documentation.
Analyze operating expenditures, CAPEX, and project costs to improve financial efficiency.
Financial Reporting and Controls:
Lead monthly and quarterly financial close for petroleum operations.
Ensure accuracy of entries in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle) for production, revenue, and cost accounts.
Prepare detailed management reports on production, cost, and profitability trends.
Oversee royalty, tax, and regulatory payments to government agencies and verify compliance.
Strengthen internal control processes for petroleum accounting and financial data integrity.
Planning and Coordination:
Support budget preparation and forecast updates for production and revenue streams.
Coordinate with petroleum engineers and production teams to reconcile production data with accounting records.
Provide financial input to asset development and investment planning.
Engage proactively with regulators (NUPRC, NMDPRA, FIRS) and JV partners on financial matters.
Education & Experience
B.Sc. in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
Professional qualification: ICAN/ACCA (mandatory). Minimum of 10 years' accounting experience, with at least 5 years in oil & gas upstream (production accounting, JV, and revenue management).
Proven record of handling multi-asset or JV accounting environments in Nigeria's petroleum sector.
ERP experience (SAP, Oracle, or SunSystems) preferred.
Skills/Competencies:
Strong knowledge of oil and gas accounting principles, JV accounting, and production cost allocation.
Solid understanding of lifting and terminal operations, royalty, and tax computations.
Advanced Excel and ERP proficiency with attention to data integrity.
Analytical, detail-oriented, and capable of explaining complex financial data to non-finance colleagues.
Excellent stakeholder management-operations, partners, and regulators.
