The Head of Private Markets will play a key role in sourcing, evaluating, and executing investments across private market asset classes, including private equity, private debt, infrastructure, and real estate.
The successful candidate will support the team in portfolio construction, due diligence, and ongoing monitoring of investments to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns for clients.
The Head of Private Markets will be responsible for leading the initiatives and managing the team, collaborating closely with senior management, internal teams, and external partners to originate and execute direct investments, as well as working on partner-led investments and secondary market opportunities.
Responsibilities
Product Design:
Develop and evaluate legal structures from the perspective of investor suitability, taxation, and regulatory compliance
Investment Strategy and Governance:
Develop governing documents and an appropriate investment strategy
Deal Pipeline:
Source and identify potential targets for investment
Deal Structuring and Due Diligence:
Lead the structuring and due diligence efforts for all investments
Take a lead role in overseeing the comprehensive credit analysis process
Evaluate financial statements, assess risk, and conduct in-depth capital structure analysis
Develop and maintain financial models for assessing investment opportunities
Fund and Investment Documentation:
Lead the drafting of the requisition documentation for establishing and marketing the fund
Lead the negotiation and documentation for the approved investment
Stakeholder Engagement:
Lead the presentation of new investments to the investing public
Provide an investment update to the investment committee
Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders and regulators
Portfolio Management, Monitoring, and Review:
Oversee and manage the performance of the investment portfolios
Provide strategic insight for portfolio optimization and ensure the investments are performing as expected.
Lead the periodic monitoring, review, and reporting of the investment portfolio
Capacity Building:
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of professionals within the team
Drive key decisions with minimal supervision
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required
An MBA, CFA, or postgraduate qualification will be advantageous
10 - 12 years of experience in private equity, private debt, infrastructure, investment banking, or corporate finance is required
The candidate must have extensive experience in credit analysis, financial modelling, structuring, origination, trade execution, and leadership
Registration with Nigeria’s Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) as a Sponsored Individual is desirable
Technical Skills:
Proficient in financial modelling and valuation
In-depth knowledge of credit markets, capital structures, debt instruments, and transaction structuring
Ability to provide opinions and recommendations to senior management, investment committees, and external stakeholders, both in written and verbal presentation
Outstanding communication and presentation skills
Strong organisation and project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple priorities and ensure timely, high-quality execution in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
