Job Summary
The Managing Director (MD), Asset Management, provides strategic leadership and overall direction for the company’s investment management business.
The role is responsible for developing and executing strategies that deliver superior risk-adjusted returns for clients, drive business growth, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain the firm’s reputation as a trusted and innovative investment partner.
The MD oversees portfolio management, research, operations, business development, compliance, client relations, and team leadership—ensuring the alignment of all activities with the firm’s vision, mission, and financial objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute the overall business strategy and growth plan for the Asset Management division.
Drive the company’s long-term vision, market positioning, and competitive advantage in the investment management industry.
Lead the formulation and execution of corporate, investment, and risk management policies.
Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and performance management of the division.
Foster a culture of innovation, ethical conduct, and high performance.
Investment Management Oversight:
Supervise the investment process across equities, fixed income, money market instruments, and alternative assets.
Set strategic asset allocation frameworks and ensure alignment with clients’ risk profiles and return objectives.
Review portfolio performance periodically and ensure adherence to investment mandates.
Approve new investment products and manage the product development lifecycle from ideation to launch.
Ensure research output is robust, data-driven, and integrated into investment decision-making.
Business Development & Client Management:
Drive business growth through new client acquisition, partnerships, and product diversification.
Build and maintain strong relationships with institutional clients, HNIs, corporates, and regulators.
Ensure excellent client servicing, transparent reporting, and retention strategies.
Represent the company at industry forums, conferences, and regulatory meetings.
Governance, Risk & Compliance:
Ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC, NSE, NAICOM, and other relevant authorities).
Oversee the establishment and maintenance of strong internal control and risk management frameworks.
Review and approve policies on AML/CFT, operational risk, compliance, and corporate governance.
Liaise with regulators, auditors, and board committees on compliance and performance matters.
Financial & Operational Management:
Oversee operational efficiency across all units — investment, operations, settlements, finance, and IT.
Monitor financial performance, manage budgets, and ensure profitability targets are met.
Approve major expenditures and manage cost optimization initiatives.
Ensure timely, accurate financial and management reporting to the Board.
Leadership & People Management:
Lead, mentor, and develop senior management and professional staff within the division.
Drive succession planning, talent management, and capacity development initiatives.
Build a results-oriented team culture that values collaboration, accountability, and excellence.
Oversee performance appraisals, reward systems, and employee engagement programs.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s/MBA preferred).
Minimum of 7–10 years relevant experience, with at least 5 years in senior management within asset management, investment banking, or portfolio management.
Professional qualifications such as CFA, CIS, ICAN, ACCA, or MBA (Finance) will be an added advantage.
Proven track record of strategic leadership, business growth, and investment performance.
Deep understanding of capital markets, investment products, and regulatory frameworks.
