Job Title: Sales Cashier

Location: Apo, Resettlement - Abuja (FCT) 
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Description

• This is a full-time, on-site role for a Sales Cashier located in Abuja.
• The Sales Cashier will handle day-to-day transactions and provide excellent customer service to ensure a seamless shopping experience.

Customer Service:

• Welcome customers warmly and ensure a pleasant shopping experience.
• Handle customer inquiries, suggest alternatives for out-of-stock items, and confirm product quality before checkout.
• Inform customers of damage/return policies and how to resolve POS payment issues.
• Listen and document customer complaints, feedback, and new product requests.
• Collect customer contact details for follow-up on requests, complaints, or refunds.
• Safely register and store forgotten items.

Sales & Payment Processing:

• Scan and process all purchases strictly through the system, no manual sales.
• Accept payments via cash, POS, or transfer and issue receipts for every transaction.
• Ensure all POS transactions are accompanied by system-generated printouts.
• Confirm prices and quantities with customers and shelf attendants when needed.
• Encourage POS usage and assist customers with any failed POS transactions.

Cash Management & Shift Handover:

• Keep accurate cash records and reconcile sales with your supervisor/manager before closing your shift.
• Hand over all cash, receipts, and other proof of payment at shift end.
• Secure the cash drawer and do not leave the pay point without logging out.
• Shut down all systems and power sources at the end of the final shift of the day.

Workstation & Asset Management:

• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked pay point.
• Ensure security of POS machines, printers, chargers, and accessories; report any faults or missing items immediately.
• Store and issue shopping bags properly, only to customers being attended to.
• Keep custody of shelf keys (if applicable) and report pricing discrepancies to relevant staff.

Loss Prevention & Security:

• Prevent unauthorized access behind the cashier stand and discourage loitering at pay point.
• Help prevent shoplifting and damage at the counter.
• Report theft, suspicious behaviour, power issues, or computer malfunctions immediately.
• Serve as a whistleblower if you witness misconduct or theft by staff (identity protected and may be rewarded if confirmed).

Communication & Support:

• Report customer issues, product defects, or price mismatches to the appropriate personnel.
• De-escalate minor customer dissatisfaction at the pay point before involving a supervisor.
• Support team members and assume assigned duties in other units if required.
• Report directly to the supervisor or manager.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Proficiency in handling cash transactions, credit cards, and managing registers
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Attention to detail and accuracy in billing and reconciling
• Basic computer and numerical skills
• Ability to maintain a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment
• Prior experience in retail, sales, or cashier roles is advantageous.
