Role Summary
You will design, install, commission, maintain and troubleshoot mission-critical communications and network systems for onshore and offshore oil & gas projects.
This role requires demonstrable field experience with Motorola DIMETRA & TETRA radio systems, satellite communications and wired/wireless fiber networks, plus proven capability with CCTV, information display systems (FIDS) and pipeline intrusion detection systems (PIDS).
Key Responsibilities
Install, configure, test and commission Motorola DIMETRA & TETRA trunked radio systems and associated base stations, repeaters and backhaul.
Deploy, configure and maintain satellite communications systems and VSAT equipment, including terminal alignment and link verification.
Design, install and maintain wired (fiber, copper) and wireless (LAN, WLAN) networks; perform fiber splicing, OTDR testing and link acceptance.
Administer on-premise servers and network services (Windows/Linux servers, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, virtualization).
Install and commission CCTV/IP camera systems, NVRs, and FIDS (information display systems); perform ongoing fault diagnosis and upgrades.
Deploy and troubleshoot pipeline intrusion detection systems (PIDS) and sensor networks; integrate alarm and monitoring into control rooms.
Configure and maintain network security devices (firewalls, VPNs, switches, routers); implement best practices for segmentation and hardening.
Produce clear technical documentation: network diagrams, as-built drawings, FAT/SAT reports, O&M manuals and handover packs.
Provide technical support and mentoring to junior technicians; coordinate with vendors and project teams during installation and commissioning.
Work to HSE and site access requirements; participate in shift/roster schedules and emergency response as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years hands-on experience in radio communications networks (DIMETRA/TETRA) and satellite comms in oil & gas, utilities or similar heavy-industry environments.
* Proven experience with Motorola DIMETRA &/or TETRA system installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.
Practical experience with VSAT/satellite terminals and satellite link provisioning.
Strong networking skills: LAN, WLAN, TCP/IP, VLANs, routing and switching; familiarity with CCNA/CCNP level concepts.
Server administration experience (Windows Server and Linux), virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V) and basic system provisioning.
Experience installing and configuring CCTV/IP camera systems and NVR platforms.
Familiarity with pipeline intrusion detection systems (PIDS) and alarm/integration systems.
Ability to read network and RF schematics, perform on-site measurements and use test equipment (multimeter, OTDR, spectrum analyzer where applicable).
Excellent problem-solving, documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
Willingness to travel to project sites and work in rostered/offshore environments.
Desirable certifications & skills:
Motorola DIMETRA/TETRA manufacturer courses or equivalent vendor certification.
Cisco (CCNA/CCNP) or equivalent networking certification.
Satellite communications training (e.g., VSAT commissioning).
CompTIA Network+/Security+, Fortinet or Palo Alto firewall training.
CCTV vendor certification (Milestone, Dahua, Hikvision) or IP CCTV systems experience.
Experience with SCADA/industrial networks and OT security practices.
