We seek a highly skilled Lead Consulting Mechanical Engineer to ovetsee and provide expert assurance on all mechanical engineering contracts executed by contractors on client projects.
The role is responsible for the comprehensive contract evaluation, verification, and certification of mechanical projects to ensure full compliance with contractual obligations, engineering standards, technical specifications, and safety regulations.
The position requires strong consulting acumen, technical rigor, and the ability to interface effectively with clients, contractors, and project teams to support quality delivery, transparency, and contract integrity.
Review mechanical engineering contracts, contractor proposals, and technical submissions to ensure alignment with contract terms, engineering specifications, and industry standards (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
Evaluate mechanical design documents, material certificates, test results, inspection reports, and as-built documentation submitted by contmctors.
Conduct independent technical assessments to verify the scope, completeness, and accuracy of contractor d Inspection, Verification & Certification
Perform field inspections, site verification activities, and witness tests to confirm mechanical works meet quality and safety requirements.
Identify deviations, non-conformances, or risks, and work with contractors to establish corrective and preventive action plans.
Prepare and issue formal mechanical work ceflification reports for client approval and payment validation.
Stakeholder Coordination & Issue Resolution:
Collaborate closely with contractors, client representatives, and internal project teams to clarify technical requirements and resolve contract or engineering disputes.
Facilitate clear communication channels to ensure transparency and timely delivery Of mechanical scopes of work.
Project Monitoring & Risk Management:
Track project progress, technical risks, and contractor performance relating to mechanical engineering deliverables.
Advise clients on potential delays, cost implications, and recommended mitigation measures.
Support contract close-out by verifying that all mechanical engineering obligations have been fully satisfied and certified.
Consulting Leadership & Capacity Development:
Provide expert technical guidance to junior engineers and team members involved in contract evaluation and assurance.
Promote best practices in mechanical engineering assurance, documentation quality, and contract compliance.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; advanced degree or professional registration (PE, COREN, CEng, or equivalent) is an added advantage.
Minimum of 12 years' experience in mechanical engineering practice, with strong exposure to contract evaluation & certification, technical assurance, and consulting.
Proven track record in reviewing, verifying, and certifying mechanical works on medium to large-scale projects (Oil & gas, infrastmcture, manufacturing, power, etc.).
Certified Lead Auditor in ISO 9001 is required (additional certifications in ISO 14001, ISO 45001, or API QI/Q2 are a plus)
Strong working knowledge of mechanical engineering standards, industly codes, and best practice frameworks (ASME, API, ISO, NFPA).
Excellent analytical, inspection, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Effective communication and stakeholder management capabilities.
Ability to manage multiple contract assignments independently and efficiently.
Proficiency with engineering design tools, QA/QC documentation systems, information management platforms.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in highly regulated sectors such as oil & gas, petrochemical, heavy manufacturing, power, or industrial infrastructure.
Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS) and non-conformance management processes.
Strong understanding Of HSE regulations relevant to mechanical engineering works.
Project management certification or experience (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is an added advantage.
