We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Medical Doctor

Location: Zurmi, Zamfara
Employment Type: Contract (Fix term contract starting with 6 months / Level 9)
Contract: 208 working hours per month

Main Purpose

• Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiary’s health conditions.

Job Description

• Apply medical knowledge and skills to diagnose and prevention. Carry out outpatient and in patient consultations, prescribing the necessary treatment respecting MSF protocols.
• Keep the patient and/or his/her family informed about the illness and provide appropriate explanations about the treatment to follow, checking they have understood.
• Follow up the evolution of the hospitalized/IDP patients, through daily visits, consultations, and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following MSF protocols, deciding whether they can be discharged or transferred to other departments in collaboration with other doctors and informing their family about the patient’s evolution.
• Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care the quality, disinfection, and sterilization of the medical material.
• Assure general compliance with standing hygiene standards.
• Participate in the collection and analysis of epidemiological data, checking its validity and informing the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients’ illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment, or material.
• Ensure ongoing training of the medical/paramedical multidisciplinary team to optimize the quality of care.
• Knows and ensures all MSF medical protocols are followed and implemented, checking universal precautions are always followed and reducing bio-hazard risks and improving infection control. Ensures professional confidentiality is respected.
• Manage the team under his/her direct responsibility according to MSF HR policies and procedures,supervising their performance, organizing, and scheduling shifts and rotations, directly participating in emergencies and on calls if necessary.

MSF Section / Context Specific Accountabilities

• Provide personal, family and community orientated comprehensive medical care to individuals. As part of the general practice team, he/she is responsible for providing patient-centered, culturally appropriate, and individual holistic care to the target population.
• Follow MSF’s medical guidelines, protocols, and ethical principles in all clinical practices.
• Work closely with the nursing team, the Sexual and Reproductive Health, the Mental Health, protection and the health promotion teams to provide clinical guidance, assistance education and support.
• Manage emergency cases, ensuring timely stabilization and resuscitation of critically ill patients.
• Ensure that patients files are completed appropriately and legibly, with good documentation of clinical findings, vital signs monitoring, investigations, referrals and treatments. Contribute to medical data collection, analysis, and reporting to support evidence-based decision-making, and maintain accurate and complete patient records, ensuring confidentiality.
• Adhere to safety protocols, including IPC measures, to protect both patients and healthcare workers
• Identify patients with acute surgical conditions during consultations and ward rounds, prepare those meeting criteria for surgery, and assist/perform surgical interventions when required, in collaboration with surgeon.
• Escalate complex evolution with surgeon and line manager, to ensure quality care and follow up for surgical cases.
• Ensure the active use of the Telemedicine service, follow up cases, update the team, to incooporate specialist recommendations in patient management.

Requirements
Education: 

• Medical Doctor Diploma Essential.
• Diploma in Tropical Medicine desirable.

Experience:

• 2-years experience minimum as a Medical Doctor or in clinical work (can be within medical training).
• Desirable in tropical medicine, or post-registration experience in Public Health,
• Obstetrics - Gynaecology, paediatrics, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB, general practice, general medicine or minor surgery.

Language:

• Mission language essential. Hausa language desirable and any other local language.
