The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing and monitoring all financial activities related to the Project.
The role ensures accurate budgeting, expenditure tracking, cost control, and financial reporting.
Working closely with the project manager, procurement, logistics, and site teams, the Project Accountant will maintain transparency, financial discipline, and compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
The role plays a critical function in ensuring proper financial planning, accountability, and decision support throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain the project budget, cost forecasts, and cash flow analyses.
Track and monitor daily project expenses against approved budgets.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
Assist in preparing budget variance reports and highlight areas requiring corrective action.
Maintain up-to-date financial records and ensure accurate posting into accounting systems.
Cost Control and Accountability:
Verify and reconcile expenses, purchase orders, delivery notes, and invoices.
Ensure all financial transactions comply with approved financial policies and project cost-control guidelines.
Monitor site spending, reconcile petty cash, and review financial claims submitted by site departments.
Provide financial insights to optimize cost efficiency and minimize waste.
Procurement and Payment Coordination:
Work closely with procurement and logistics teams to verify and validate supplier invoices.
Support the processing of vendor payments after confirming delivery and documentation accuracy.
Maintain a register of suppliers, contracts, and payment schedules.
Assist in maintaining records of commitments, accruals, and outstanding liabilities.
Compliance, Audit, and Documentation:
Ensure full compliance with internal financial controls, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain proper filing and documentation of all financial transactions for audit readiness.
Support internal and external audit processes by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documents.
Ensure adherence to company policies on approval limits, asset management, and financial accountability.
Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement:
Work closely with the project manager, finance department, and site leadership to ensure financial alignment.
Provide timely financial updates and risks to management.
Participate in project review meetings and contribute to financial decision-making.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or related field.
7–10 years’ experience in accounting, preferably in construction, engineering, healthcare, or infrastructure projects.
Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA or equivalent) is an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of project accounting, budgeting, and cost control.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, or ERP-based systems).
Strong analytical, reconciliation, and reporting skills.
