The Southern Delta University, Ozoro is a public University established by the Act of Delta State House of Assembly on February 23, 2021. The establishment of the University was a direct response of the Government of Delta State to the burning desire for more credible tertiary institutions to address the yearning of the teaming youth of Delta State origin and Nigeria in general desirous of qualitative university education.
The main campus of the institution in Ozoro is approximately 67km from Warri and about 114km from Asaba, the state capital. Its campus at Orerokpe in Okpe Local Government Area, spreads into the commercial and bustling oil city of Warri.
The Governing Council of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, Delta State, Nigeria, at its meeting held on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, decided to fill the position that shall become vacant on 5th May 2026, upon the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent.
In this regard, applications are invited from suitably qualified and interested candidates for the position below:
Job Title: Vice-Chancellor
Location: Ozoro, Delta
Function of the Vice Chancellor
Subject to the provisions of the University law, the Vice-Chancellor shall take precedence over all other members of the University except the Pro-Chancellor and Chancellor.
Subject to the provisions of the University law, the Vice-Chancellor shall have the general function of directing the activities of the University and shall be the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University and Chairman of the Senate.
Qualification and Experience
Candidates to be appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Southern Delta University, Ozoro
Shall be a person not below the rank of Professor of not less than Seven (7) years standing, and with cognate experience in University Administration and Management.
Must possess a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in one of the disciplines or programmes of the University, and such candidate faculty must be available in the University.
Must show evidence of academic leadership and sound scholarship by way of research, publications and mentoring of students and fellow staff.
Should be one with unblemished character and personality; morally sound and free from disciplinary and financial embarrassment.
Should be well exposed and versatile in international relations, and with profile to command national and international respect.
Should be conversant with University business, particularly with records that could guarantee academic standards and discipline.
Must show evidence of understanding of the academic, national and international objectives of universities.
Must be of good health and shall show evidence of it interview, if shortlisted.
Should be well versed in ICT, with digital skills.
Should be able to inspire and sustain harmonious working relationship among the administration, staff and students.
Should not be above sixty-five (65) years at the time of assumption of office as Vice-Chancellor.
Tenure
The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for one non-renewable term of five (5) years only.
