Security Assistant - Office of the Auditor General at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is a regional group of fifteen West African countries. Founded on 28 May 1975, with the signing of the Treaty of Lagos, its mission is to promote economic integration across the region.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Security Assistant - Office of the Auditor General

Location: Abuja (FCT)
Institution: Office of the Auditor General of ECOWAS Institutions
Grade: G4/G5/G6
Division: Internal Services
Line Supervisor: Administrative Officer

Role Overview 

  • Under the supervision of the Administrative Officer, the incumbent shall be available for emergency callouts 24/7.
  • He/ She shall also be responsible for supervising external security personnel deployed to the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) and assisting in all security related matters.

Role and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in maintaining the security plan such as evacuation drills, emergency procedures to ensure the SOPs in the event of various incidences are followed.
  • Assist with monitoring the status and compliance of the Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) and Minimum Operating Residential Security Standards (MORSS).
  • Liaise with the Head of Security at ECOWAS Commission in monitoring and assessing the security situation within the duty station and report/ make recommendations as appropriate.
  • Support training courses on security issues/awareness and preparedness.
  • Implement decisions agreed at security management meetings.
  • Supervising private security guards attached to the OAG and assist in the management of the security company when required.
  • Assisted in coordinating armed back up and escort duties for Head of Institution and staff members, including travel security advisory.
  • Maintaining all security records.
  • Conducting basic security investigations and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Recommend appropriate security equipment for the OAG use and budgeting.
  • Liaise with other security agencies duty station and host country.
  • Perform any other tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Academic Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • Brevet de Technicien Superieur (BTS)/Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or equivalent in social sciences (such as Public Administration; Business Administration; Sociology etc.) from a recognized tertiary Institution.
  • Training in security management and security studies will be an added advantage.

Experience:

  • 5 years of experience with a security agency or relevant security related military experience.
  • At least two (2) years of experience of assisting in managing security protocols/measures and supervising frontline security agents.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment in applying ECOWAS Security policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols.
  • Knowledge of the laws, regulations, and guidelines related to securing personnel, facilities, and information, including the requirements for handling, transporting, and protecting classified information and proper reporting of security incidents.
  • Knowledge of weaponry, and intelligence operations, public safety, and security operations; occupational health and safety.
  • Specialized trainings in safety and security will be an added advantage. 

Age Limit:

  • Be below 35 years old. This provision does not apply to internal candidates.

  • Well-developed information sharing skills using technology and in accordance with established processes and practices.
  • Advanced verbal assertiveness and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to acknowledge and understand the validity of others’ viewpoints and to respond in a constructive manner.
  • Proficiency in information communication technologies (ICT).
  • Fluency in oral and written expressions in one of the ECOWAS official languages of the Community (English, French & Portuguese). Knowledge of a second and/or third language will be an added advantage.

Planning & Implementation:

  • Ability to allocate time for specific task in a manner that will meet deadlines and quality/quantity expectations.
  • Good organizational skills with an excellent ability to break down work into smaller parts and focusing on the most important steps first.
  • Ability to contribute to maintaining organizational performance standards throughout implementation of new processes, practices and plans adopted by the Department and of relevance to assigned tasks.
  • Ability to monitor progress and to consider new goals in the context of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to follow through with commitments made to others.

UA21,251.28 / USD33,530.27 (G4/1)
