Job Summary
The General Manager (GM) is responsible for the overall strategic leadership, operational management, and financial performance of the company’s diversified businesses spanning Insurance services, Real Estate development and management, and Empowerment & Training programs.
GM will drive growth, ensure regulatory compliance, strengthen partnerships, and lead cross-functional teams to achieve the organization’s vision and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Development:
Develop and implement company-wide strategies across Insurance, Real Estate, and Training/Empowerment portfolios.
Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and revenue streams.
Translate board-approved strategies into actionable operational plans.
Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and market dynamics to maintain competitiveness.
Operations & Performance Management:
Oversee daily operations across all business units to ensure efficiency and quality service delivery.
Set performance targets and KPIs for departments and ensure accountability.
Coordinate inter-departmental activities to maximize synergies across business lines.
Ensure proper documentation, reporting, and process optimization.
Financial Management:
Prepare and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
Monitor cash flow, profitability, and cost controls across all operations.
Ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.
Support fundraising, investment, and grant opportunities where applicable.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure full compliance with relevant laws and regulatory bodies (e.g. Insurance regulators, real estate authorities, training/accreditation bodies).
Establish and enforce internal controls, risk management, and corporate governance frameworks.
Oversee contract management, policies, and legal obligations.
People Management & Organizational Development:
Lead, mentor, and manage senior management and staff across departments.
Foster a high-performance, ethical, and inclusive work culture.
Oversee recruitment, capacity building, training, and performance appraisals.
Promote staff development aligned with company goals.
Stakeholder & Client Relations:
Represent the company in high-level engagements with regulators, partners, clients, donors, and investors.
Strengthen customer relations and ensure excellent service delivery.
Build strong relationships with government agencies, financial institutions, and community stakeholders.
Empowerment & Training Programs Oversight:
Provide strategic oversight for empowerment and training initiatives.
Ensure programs are impactful, sustainable, and aligned with organizational objectives.
Monitor outcomes, reporting, and impact assessment of training programs.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Revenue growth and profitability across business units.
Operational efficiency and service quality.
Regulatory compliance and risk management effectiveness.
Staff performance, retention, and development.
Successful implementation and impact of empowerment and training programs.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Insurance, Real Estate, or a related field.
Master’s Degree (MBA or equivalent) is an added advantage.
8 - 12 years relevant work experience, with at least 5 years in a senior management or leadership role.
Proven experience in at least two of the following sectors: Insurance, Real Estate, Training/Empowerment, Financial Services.
Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements.
