Job Summary
The Systems Administrator / Cloud Operations Specialist is a dynamic and essential role responsible for maintaining the high availability, security, and performance of our core server infrastructure and critical data protection strategies.
This position serves as the organization's primary expert for enterprise cloud backup solutions and leverages technical expertise to directly support the innovation and deployment phases of new product lines.
This is a highly collaborative position requiring a blend of operational excellence and forward-thinking engineering support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Cloud Backup and Data Protection Management (Cloud Operations):
Strategy and Execution: Manage and coordinate the organization’s enterprise-level cloud backup and recovery strategy, including configuration, monitoring, and tuning for optimal performance and capacity.
Disaster Recovery (DR): Design, implement, and rigorously test Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity (BC) protocols to minimize downtime and ensure recovery objectives ($RTO$ and $RPO$) are met for all critical business data.
Auditing and Compliance: Conduct regular audits of backup job status, retention policies, and security posture to ensure strict adherence to internal compliance standards and industry best practices.
Cost Management: Monitor and optimize cloud storage usage and egress costs associated with the backup solution.
Enterprise System Administration (On-Premise & Virtualization):
System Maintenance: Oversee the administration, management, maintenance, and monitoring of all physical and virtual servers across the organization's footprint.
Patching and Security: Proactively manage operating system patching, vulnerability remediation, and configuration management for core server infrastructure (e.g., Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, file/print services).
Performance Tuning: Utilize system monitoring tools to analyse server performance metrics, diagnose complex system faults, and implement corrective measures to ensure maximum uptime and resource efficiency.
Documentation: Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date documentation for server configurations, maintenance logs, and troubleshooting guides.
Product Development and Technical Support:
Technical Consultation: Actively participate as a subject matter expert in the development lifecycle of new product lines, providing technical guidance on infrastructure requirements, scalability, and integration points.
Environment Management: Provision, configure, and maintain segregated technical environments (Development, Testing, Staging) required to support product development and quality assurance efforts.
Deployment Support: Assist with the smooth and secure transition of new applications and services from development environments into production.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, OR equivalent demonstrated professional experience.
3-5 years of hands-on experience in Systems Administration, Network Administration, or a related technical role.
Demonstrable expertise in managing a large-scale cloud-integrated backup solution (e.g., Veeam, Rubrik, Cohesity, Azure Backup, AWS Backup).
Proficiency with enterprise-level operating systems (e.g., Microsoft Windows Server and/or Linux distributions).
Solid experience administering and supporting virtualization technologies (VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V).
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, or other relevant vendor certifications.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) and scripting languages (PowerShell, Python) for automating administrative tasks.
Familiarity with network fundamentals (TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancing) as they pertain to server architecture.
Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
