Job Title: People & Culture Manager
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
Work model: Hybrid (2 days/week in office)
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Role Overview
As People and Culture Manager, you will be responsible for building and formalising Pika’s people systems as the company scales. This is a foundational role focused on structure, compliance, and culture.
You will design and implement clear people policies, support the transition of contract based roles to full time employment where appropriate, and ensure that all people practices are compliant with applicable labour laws and aligned with Nigeria tax reforms effective from January 2026.
You will also advise leadership on the most appropriate and compliant structures for Pika’s contract agents in the field who work directly with retailers, balancing operational effectiveness, legal compliance, and fairness.
Beyond systems and compliance, you will play a central role in ensuring a positive working environment and in upholding Pika’s warm, welcoming, and values driven culture.
Core Objectives
Formalise people and culture structures across the organisation.
Ensure people operations and employment practices are compliant and future ready, including alignment with Nigeria tax reforms.
Design appropriate and compliant engagement models for contract agents working in the field.
Build and sustain a healthy, welcoming, and high trust working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement core people and culture policies including employment contracts, employee handbooks, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
Lead the transition of contract based roles to full time employment where applicable, ensuring clear documentation, benefits, and compliant processes.
Advise on and implement best fit structures for contract agents working with retailers, including contract terms, engagement models, and risk mitigation.
Ensure compliance with statutory employment and people related obligations, working closely with Finance and external advisors where required.
Partner with Finance to ensure people practices, payroll inputs, and engagement models align with Nigeria tax reforms effective January 2026.
Establish clear onboarding, probation, confirmation, and exit processes across all engagement types.
Create and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive working environment for all employees and contractors.
Act as a trusted point of contact for employee and contractor relations, workplace concerns, and people related guidance.
Support managers with performance management, feedback, and team development.
Embed and protect Pika’s warm, welcoming culture as the organisation grows.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Law, Business Administration, or a related field with 7+ years of experience in people and culture or human resources roles, preferably in a growing organisation.
Strong understanding of relevant labour laws, contractor engagement, and people operations.
Experience advising on or managing contract based workforces, including field or agent models.
Experience working closely with finance teams on payroll, benefits, and tax-related matters.
Comfortable building structure in fast moving and evolving environments.
Approachable, empathetic, and trusted, with a strong sense of fairness and professionalism.
