Center for Advocacy, Transparency, and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), founded in 2018, is a registered NGO with a head office in Maiduguri, Borno State, with offices across Yobe and Adamawa states. We have been visible in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states implementing projects in education, protection (child/GBV), WaSH, nutrition, empowerment/livelihood, governance, and peacebuilding.
Our approach is aligned with our mission to enhance service delivery and empower citizens through our humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding nexus (HDP). CATAI is dedicated to enhancing service delivery through citizen empowerment. Its mission is to promote a just society across all regions in Nigeria through advocacy, research, impact, and innovation, focusing on institutional reforms, capacity building, and citizen empowerment. By creating platforms for dialogue, enabling informed debates, and building citizen capacity, CATAI strengthens local communities, allowing individuals to act as catalysts for addressing societal issues. The organization is committed to advocating for and promoting quality education, particularly for girls in marginalized communities, and utilizing technological means to enhance children’s productivity through knowledge acquisition.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Child Protection Caseworker (CP)
Location: Madagali, Adamawa
Employment Type: Full-time

Responsibilities
Case Management:
- Identify, assess, document and prioritise children at risk through outreach, referrals and community engagement.
- Conduct intake and comprehensive assessments and develop individualised case plans in collaboration with children and caregivers.
- Manage child protection cases within acceptable timeframes in line with Northeast Nigeria Case Management SOPs.
- Provide regular follow-up, including home visits, to monitor progress and ensure safe and appropriate case closure.
- Participate in case conferences for the management of complex and high-risk cases.
- Ensure all case management information is documented accurately, confidentially and in accordance with CATAI-approved procedures, including the proper use of case management forms, registers and electronic databases.
Psychosocial Support and Referrals:
- Provide basic psychosocial support to children and caregivers in a survivor-centred and child-friendly manner.
- Facilitate timely referrals to appropriate services, including health, education, legal, GBV and MHPSS providers, based on assessed needs.
- Support children and caregivers in accessing referred services and follow up on referral outcomes.
- Maintain and regularly update a service mapping directory for the facility and catchment areas.
Community Engagement and Prevention:
- Work closely with caregivers, community leaders and volunteers to promote child protection awareness, prevention and risk-reduction.
- Participate in community sensitisation activities and contribute to strengthening community-based child protection mechanisms.
Monitoring, Reporting and Information Management:
- Maintain accurate daily activity records, attendance sheets and complete case files.
- Prepare and submit timely weekly case updates and monitoring reports to the Child Protection Officer.
- Facilitate the collection and reporting of information on child protection risks, trends and emerging concerns in CATAI’s operational areas.
- Immediately flag and escalate urgent protection concerns and high-risk cases to the supervisor.
Safeguarding, Ethics and Professional Conduct:
- Uphold child safeguarding, confidentiality and survivor-centred principles at all times.
- Adhere strictly to organisational Code of Conduct, PSEA policies and ethical standards.
- Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct and ensure that all actions do not expose children to further risk.
Administrative and Programme Support:
- Support the preparation of procurement and administrative documentation required for case management activities.
- Participate in coordination meetings, supervision sessions, trainings and refresher workshops as required.
Requirements
- Minimum of Diplomain in Social Sciences, Social Work, or Community Development
- Minimum of 1 year sectoral (child protection) experience in a similar position
- Experience working and communicating with Children
- Excellent technical understanding of child protection and community-based approaches
- Excellent technical understanding of child protection (especially case management) and community-based approaches
- Excellent understanding of the case management, including the FTR process
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks
- Able to lead a team to achieve results
- Flexibility and ability to work independently and in a team
- Good understanding of Primero’s CPIMS+, process of case management from start to finish
- Able to work under tight deadlines and under pressure
- Able to operate in an extremely harsh living and working environment
- Gender awareness and sensitivity
- Commitment to the aims and principles of CATAI. In particular, a good understanding of the CATAI mandate and child focus, and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
- Awareness of using positive discipline: an officer should never shout at, humiliate, or hit children.
