Egbin Power Plc. Lagos is one of the biggest additions to the electricity industry in Nigeria. Often seen as the biggest single generating power station in Sub-Saharan Africa, it was built to meet the every rising demand for electricity in Lagos and its environs.

Following the nation’s privatization exercise, Sahara, through its power division, Sahara Power Group and sundry affiliations, acquired the 1320 MW installed capacity Egbin Power Plant. We are working towards deploying a minimum of 5,000 MW of electricity generation over the next five years.

Job Description

• The Head of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment will provide plant QHSE leadership by ensuring facility compliance with corporate safety policies and procedures that are aligned with relevant regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop QHSE policies, guidelines and programmes required to achieve HSE excellence at the plant
• Ensure & monitor compliance of all operations and maintenance activities with defined HSE policies
• Develop and maintain emergency and disaster preparedness plans that provide clear roles and responsibilities for all personnel
• Oversee the conduct of periodic safety self-audits as well as unscheduled spot checks in the plant
• Provide advice and technical guidance to the Management and Operations on HSE issues
• Liaise with relevant HSE authorities to ensure staff awareness and compliance with all regulations and policies
• Promote safety awareness throughout the plant and other connected sites
• Implement programs to increase HSE awareness and performance among contractors
• Ensure the availability of HSE facilities and emergency services in the plant
• Ensure proper Health and Safety risk identification, assessment and implementation of mitigating strategies
• Collate HSE statistics, analyse incident trends and make appropriate recommendations
• Facilitate HSE audits of construction and contractors’ activities
• Escalate all unresolved safety concerns and issues to the parties involved
• Assist with the training and development of assigned subordinates
• Conduct a performance review of subordinates.
• Prepare periodic reports for the attention of the CEO.
• Implement data protection policies and practices of Egbin Power Plc.
• Ensure compliance with the NDPR and other data protection laws, and data protection policies.
• Undertake a Data Protection Impact Assessment as applicable to curb the risk during data processing operations.
• Take accountability for the establishment and effective implementation of Integrated Management System (ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 & 45001:2018) and support other relevant roles to demonstrate their leadership as it applies to your areas of responsibility.
• Ensure strategic review of business processes to drive customer satisfaction and improvement.
• Engage, direct and support persons /units/departments to understand and identify hazards, risks, environmental aspect and Impact as it is related to their jobs

Data Privacy & Protection:

• Implement data protection policies and practices of Egbin Power PLC.
• Ensure compliance with the NDPR and other data protection laws, and data protection policies.
• Undertake a Data Protection Impact Assessment as applicable to curb the risk during data processing operations.

Education and Work Experience

• Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Sciences or Social Science from a reputable university.
• Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience in a similar role with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Membership of ISPON is a must-have, while membership of ASSP, IOSH, and ECRMI are added advantage.
• Professional certifications like ISPON LEVEL 3,  NEBOSH IDIP, LEVEL 6 DIPLOMA, ISO Lead Auditors certifications, etc are mandatory.
• Knowledge of NERC HSE codes, Nigerian safety and Health legislations is required.

Skills and Competencies:

• Knowledge of international HSE codes, standards and best practices.
• Knowledgeable about HSE Standards approved by NERC.
• Good interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office tools.
• Problem-solving skills.
