Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Senior Finance Officer to join our fintech company.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in overseeing financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing settlements, and supporting strategic decision-making in a fast-paced financial technology environment.
This role requires strong accounting expertise, deep understanding of fintech operations, and the ability to work closely with management, auditors, regulators, and banking partners.
Role & Responsibilities
The individual in this role will:
Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, and financial controls.
Manage settlements and reconciliations across payment channels, banks, switches, PTSPs, merchants, and agents.
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, including management accounts, board reports, and regulatory submissions.
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards (IFRS).
Monitor cash flow, wallet balances, and liquidity positions to ensure operational stability.
Lead and support internal audit processes, risk assessments, and implementation of control measures.
Coordinate external audits and serve as the primary liaison with auditors, regulators, and financial institutions.
Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements, including CBN, FIRS, NFIU, and other relevant bodies.
Support payroll processing and ensure accurate salary, terminal, and statutory payments.
Review contracts and financial agreements with banks, partners, and service providers from a financial risk perspective.
Work closely with product, operations, and compliance teams to support new product launches and system changes.
Provide financial insights and analysis to support strategic planning, cost optimisation, and growth initiatives.
Maintain proper documentation and ensure financial data integrity across systems.
Desired Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Professional accounting qualification (ICAN, ACCA, ACA, CPA or equivalent) is mandatory.
5 - 8 years of progressive experience in finance or accounting roles, preferably within fintech, banking, payments, or financial services.
Strong understanding of fintech operations, including wallets, payment processing, settlements, and reconciliations.
Proven experience preparing management accounts, board reports, and regulatory filings.
Solid knowledge of internal controls, internal audit, and risk management.
Hands-on experience with taxation, statutory compliance, and regulatory reporting in Nigeria.
Experience working with auditors, regulators, and banking partners.
Tools & Software Proficiency:
Accounting and ERP systems such as Sage, Odoo, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (financial modeling, reconciliations, reporting).
Experience using fintech core systems, settlement dashboards, or transaction monitoring tools is an advantage.
Familiarity with reporting and collaboration tools such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Slack, or similar.
