Job Title: Backend Engineer – Behavioral Risk Engine

The Role

• We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join our team and support the development of PebbleScore’s behavioral scoring engine. In this role, you will contribute to the systems that ingest, process, and expose behavioral data used in credit risk analysis.
• You will work closely with data scientists and product teams to ensure that our backend infrastructure is reliable, scalable, and designed with real-world financial use cases in mind.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and maintain backend services for ingesting and processing behavioral event data
• Build and support feature pipelines used in credit risk modeling
• Develop and maintain secure, well-documented APIs for internal and external use
• Ensure data quality, traceability, and consistency across systems
• Collaborate with data science teams to support model deployment and iteration
• Contribute to system performance, reliability, and scalability as usage grows

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong experience in backend development using Python (preferred), Go, or Java
• Solid understanding of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
• Experience designing and working with event-driven or asynchronous systems
• Familiarity with RESTful API design and backend best practices
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP
• Strong attention to data accuracy, security, and system reliability

Desirable Experience:

• Exposure to financial services, lending, fraud, or risk-related systems
• Experience supporting or deploying machine learning models in production
• Familiarity with data pipelines, feature engineering, or analytics infrastructure
• Experience working with large or complex datasets, particularly in emerging markets

• Behavioral data is reliably captured and processed for use in scoring models
• Backend systems support consistent and explainable model outputs
• APIs perform reliably under real-time usage by lending partners

Salary
N200,000 / month.
