Job Title: Business Development Executive / Manager - Scientific & Laboratory Solutions
Location: Lagos
Job type: Full-time
Role Overview
We are seeking commercially driven business development professionals with a strong scientific or laboratory background to grow our presence across key sectors including pharmaceutical manufacturing, food & beverage, oil & gas and energy, cosmetics, industrial QC, and medical diagnostics.
This is a field-based commercial role focused on opening doors, challenging customer assumptions, uncovering latent needs, and positioning technically sound solutions.
The role suits individuals who have worked hands-on in laboratories or applied technical environments and are now motivated to move into a customer-facing, growth-oriented career.
Success in this role depends less on traditional relationship selling and more on the ability to teach, tailor, and challenge customers using real technical credibility.
Key Responsibilities
Proactively identify, engage, and develop new customer opportunities within assigned market segments.
Lead high-quality technical and commercial conversations with end users, lab managers, QA/QC teams, and decision-makers.
Challenge existing customer practices by introducing improved workflows, technologies, or compliance-aligned approaches.
Translate practical laboratory experience into compelling value propositions and solution-based sales discussions.
Work closely with internal application specialists and product teams to scope, propose, and close opportunities.
Build and maintain a structured sales pipeline, with disciplined follow-up and reporting.
Gather and relay market intelligence, including competitor positioning, pricing norms, and emerging customer needs.
Represent the company professionally in the field, at customer sites, industry events, and technical meetings.
Candidate Profile
Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant scientific discipline, aligned with the target market (e.g. Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Medical Laboratory Science, Chemical Engineering, or similar).
Hands-on experience as a user of laboratory instruments, consumables, or analytical techniques relevant to the sector they will cover.
Prior exposure to regulated, quality-driven environments (e.g. GMP labs, QC labs, accredited testing labs) is a strong advantage.
3+ years’ professional experience, which may include laboratory work, technical roles, application support, or early commercial exposure.
Demonstrated commercial curiosity and confidence — comfortable questioning customer assumptions and proposing alternatives.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for different audiences.
Self-motivated, disciplined, and comfortable working independently in a field-based role.
Willingness to travel as required within the assigned territory or sector.
Commercial Mindset:
This role suits individuals with a challenger sales orientation — those who enjoy teaching customers something new, reframing problems, and driving value-based decisions rather than transactional sales.
Candidates must be comfortable being measured on activity, pipeline development, and results, with clear expectations set over time.
Remuneration and Logistics
Flexibility is provided for local transportation and logistics arrangements; however, a company vehicle is not provided.
Competitive remuneration package, including base salary, transport allowance, health insurance (HMO), pension contribution, and performance-based incentives.
Application Closing Date
Not Specified.
