Egbin Power Plc. Lagos is one of the biggest additions to the electricity industry in Nigeria. Often seen as the biggest single generating power station in Sub-Saharan Africa, it was built to meet the every rising demand for electricity in Lagos and its environs.
Following the nation’s privatization exercise, Sahara, through its power division, Sahara Power Group and sundry affiliations, acquired the 1320 MW installed capacity Egbin Power Plant. We are working towards deploying a minimum of 5,000 MW of electricity generation over the next five years.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Head, Technical Solutions, Risk Management and Assurance
The primary role of Head Technical Solutions & Standards, Risk Management, Plant Integrity and Technical Assurance is to oversee the development and application of technical standards for the company; develop and successful implement technical solutions based on the standards; develop and manage risk-based decisions; develop and oversee the successful introduction of Risk and Reliability Management (RRM) in the company; and apply the principles of technical assurance to attain and sustain plant integrity.
This involves coordinating plans that ensure that all risks associated with the design and operation of the assets are identified and permanently maintained at an accepted level, in compliance with the Asset Management Philosophy and Strategy Document for 1.32GW Egbin Power Plant, HSE and relevant referential documents.
He coordinates the development of Asset Criticality Categorisation criteria for the power generating assets required to confirm that activities are identified, and risk assessments are effectively performed.
He is accountable for ensuring that the verification of the integrity status of facilities is properly monitored, Facility Status Reports (FSRs) are issued, and provides the assurance of integrity to the Head, Technical Solutions & Standards, Risk Management, Plant Integrity & Technical Assurance.
He coordinates the Plant Integrity and Technical Assurance departments to meet their set objectives. He coordinates the Technical Risk, Reliability & Engineering Performance Management department to ensure risks are acknowledged, understood and managed effectively and that performance is reviewed and improved over time.
Risks include, but are not limited to, Technical, Economic, Commercial, Operational, Political (TECOP), Legal and Reputation. This involves developing policies and procedures for identifying, quantifying and mitigating risk and exploiting opportunities.
He coordinates the Asset Information Management department to define, implement and manage Asset Information for the business.
He defines the asset information needed in the organisation, how it is gathered, analysed, interpreted and managed, and how the knowledge generated is applied.
The job holder is the enterprise champion for the development and incorporation of new energy in the business.
This includes renewable energy development, decarbonization and carbon footprint reduction initiatives and digitalisation.

The role will coordinate the following sets of activities:
Engineering Standards:
Lead the development of engineering standards for all equipment.
Ensure that the company's engineering standards satisfy the minimum requirements of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) and other regulatory/statutory agencies
Continuously update company engineering standards to adapt to changes in the operating environment, industry and global best practices.
Develop and implement a framework for the incorporation of new energy in business, such as digitalisation and decarbonization.
Plant Integrity:
Contribute to the identification of Critical Equipment, based on guidelines from Head, Technical Solutions & Standards, Risk Management, Plant Integrity & Technical Assurance.
Verify that the Critical Equipment Register (CER) is in place and updated.
Ensure that the equipment criticality set in the various risk-based processes (RBI, RCM, CE Register) is updated.
Develop an Asset Integrity Framework for Egbin Power Plc; get it endorsed by the Head, Technical Solutions & Standards, Risk Management, Plant Integrity & Technical Assurance and communicate to all staff.
Establish all relevant standards and procedures required to formalise the key processes required to manage Asset Integrity.
Technical Assurance:
Identify all Integrity Management responsibilities, ensure they are correctly allocated throughout the Asset Organization and properly documented as part of the Integrity Management System.
Verify that job descriptions properly address asset integrity requirements. Verify that staff are fully aware of their responsibilities associated with Asset Integrity management and that they have adequate skill levels for the position.
Verify that certification and training plans are in place where appropriate, and follow-up progress through a competence assurance process. Conduct awareness sessions to local staff as required.
Contribute to the establishment of long-term strategic planning and short-term operational planning, verifying in particular, proper coordination between Asset Management, Project Management, Operations and Maintenance.
Conducts /contributes to risk assessments associated with anomalies and incidents. Advise on integrity threats.
Lead the Asset Integrity Review Team (AIRT) involving the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and Discipline Heads.
Hold regular meetings and update the meeting action log. Ensure that during AIRT meetings, criticality ratings and priorities allocated to the various integrity issues and their resolution are updated, recovery plans are in place and progressed, discipline indicators and integrity KPIs are updated.
Attend the Asset Integrity Management Meeting chaired by the Head, Technical Solutions & Standards, Risk Management, Plant Integrity & Technical Assurance.
Present an executive review of the affiliate performance on Integrity, focusing on high-level KPIs, major threats and critical action plans. Advice on trends.
Establish or actively contribute to the establishment of (a) management system(s) that verifies that key asset processes are properly implemented, anomalies recorded and ranked as per their criticality, remedial measures are progressed until closure, thus providing a positive assurance of integrity.
Contributes to the establishment of a Management of Change (MoC) process and follows up on action plans until change approval.
In close liaison with the SMEs, establish the key measures and indicators that will allow monitoring integrity performance on a continuous basis, aligned with the guidelines set.
Develop an “Integrity dashboard” composed of selected integrity measures and KPIs. Keep custody of the dashboard and ensure that data update is timely delivered by all involved stakeholders.
Lead/participate in Incident Investigations.
Monitor performance of the Asset Integrity management processes by organising regular reviews and self-audits. These audits shall be based on pre-established protocols being part of the Asset Integrity Verification Process (AIVP).
Lead and conduct RBI reviews
Participate in the preparation of the capital and operating budgets for Inspection.
Monitor and oversee the execution of overhauls, major repairs, Capital Asset Replacements (CAR), inspection programs and activities.
Witness and participate in all statutory inspections
Ensure that Critical Tasks related to Asset Integrity-Process Safety Management (AI-PSM) are undertaken and executed.
Perform root cause analysis and failure investigation on systems and equipment, as required
Liaise closely with Asset Management, Operations, Maintenance and other technical teams to coordinate major shutdowns and turn-around activities.
Act as the focal point with the Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on all matters relating to Asset Integrity.
Risk Management:
Assess and manage risks
Define and manage risk management processes and procedures.
Identify and assess risks arising from power generation activities.
Identify improvements needed to working practices and procedures.
Monitor the progress and impact of improvement actions.
Plan and implement improvements to the quality of AM processes.
Evaluate the effectiveness of process improvements.
Assess asset condition and performance against AM strategy and objectives.
Analyse the progress, impact and effectiveness of asset performance corrective actions.
Identify lessons learned and adjust policies and procedures accordingly.
Identify and monitor relevant legal, regulatory and technical requirements for the safe operation of the plant.
Develop effective policies and procedures to make sure requirements are met.
Assess how policies and procedures are put into practice and provide support.
Investigate root causes of assets or system failures, or incidents.
Make effective use of ‘lessons learned’ information from the incident.
Develop overview reports of risk/opportunity status for management, implement and manage risk management plans utilising the Company’s risk management standards.
Safeguarding the earning capability of the plant and assets by highlighting the potential impacts on the plant performance.
Perform independent research review, studies and analysis in support of risk management projects and programs.
Use risk management tools and processes, to conduct engineering risk evaluation of existing infrastructure.
Assess the risk of core damage and/or loss of primary containment integrity resulting from equipment failures, human errors and/or phenomena such as flooding, fires and other environmental impacts.
Conduct analysis such as process risk mitigation, new technology adoption, and human factors
Develop and drive a comprehensive technical risk management plan that will anticipate reliability-related and non-reliability-related safety risks that could adversely impact personnel, or plant operations.
Highlight possible engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other equipment problems relating to capacity, quality, safety, or regulatory compliance that adversely affect operations.
Develop and maintain a repository of technical risk assessments to support risk management planning and strategic decision-making.
Develop and assess the impact of the technical human capital risk, such as (knowledge of plant, manpower risk, training gap risk) and implement the process for regular status reviews.
Conduct Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
Evaluate the reliability potential of alternative engineering designs and solutions.
Asset Information Strategy:
Define asset information strategy for the organisation
Define the asset strategy required to prepare the business for integration with New Energy and other emerging and disruptive technologies.
Develop asset information strategies that are integrable with the organisation's growth plans, e.g., Egbin Phase 2 Project.
Asset Information Standards:
Specify asset definition standards to provide a common definition of asset attributes.
Define asset condition standards and measures and specify how these should be used for all types of maintenance activities, including preventive maintenance, condition assessment and corrective maintenance.
Specify standard definitions of asset defects and failures, e.g., MTTA, MTBF, MTTR, MTBOT, etc.
Specify asset performance management standards.
Asset Information Systems:
Specify and validate functional and technical requirements of Information Systems needed to support and integrate AM processes.
Identify and evaluate Human Factors Engineering (HFE) aspects of the asset information systems of the organisation.
Define and plan the integration of information systems and tools.
Ensure AM information systems produce relevant, usable data in a cost-effective manner
Monitor the deployment of information systems and tools to ensure that they achieve their intended objectives.
Data and Information Management:
Plan and manage the collection, maintenance, updating, storage and dissemination of AM information.
Process and analyse AM data to provide effective business information as required.
Prepare reports from the asset information system as may be required.
Provide AM data and information needed to transfer assets to the operational Integrated Management System.
Ensure the integration of the QUALITY and HSE requirements into the departmental processes
Ensure effective management of risks and opportunities and implementation of improvement programs.
Ensure that the management system achieves its intended results within the department.
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, preferably Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 21 years’ experience in Power Utilities, Hydrocarbon Exploration and Production or any asset-intensive industry; five of which would have been spent on Technical Integrity and Assurance.
