Médecins Sans Frontières is a private, non-profit international humanitarian organization dedicated to providing medical assistance to populations in distress, without discrimination and regardless of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. As part of a diphtheria vaccination campaign in Borno state, MSF is looking for nursing supervisors:Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) is an International, Private, Non-Governmental, Non-Profit Humanitarian Organization. Our organisation offers assistance to populations in distress, to victims of natural or man-made disasters, to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation. We have been working in Nigeria facilitated by a Memorandum of Understanding between Medecins Sans Frontieres and the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The French Section are at present co-operating with the Federal Ministry of Health, and State and Local government departments of health on various health projects. Our current focus is the VVF/Emergency Obstetrics Project in Jigawa State, the Provision of Primary Health Care in Borno State, and the Nutrition Project in Katsina State
Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e. perform as a nurse, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures, and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
Carry out and/or supervise the pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.)in his or her activity, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
Work closely with all transversal team, mainly the campaign’s logistics supervisor
Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data collection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have updated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and support decision-taking.
Specific accountabilities in link with vaccination campaign:
Before Campaign:
Participate in the ToT (training of trainer) for Nurse supervisors.
Participate in vaccination team member training (theoretical and practical) at LGA level.
Participate in campaign organization, planning and monitoring meetings
Estimate and ensures availability of the daily medical supply needs for vaccination sites
Ensure the vaccination checklists are fully implemented
During the Campaign:
Responsible to supervise vaccination teams.
Organizes and supervises the management of vaccines and medical supplies (materials, AEFI, AED kits). Ensures that their used is rationalized and conform.
Verify that all vaccination teams are complete at the start of each daily activity
Make sure that those vaccinated are in the target population.
Check the temperature in the cold boxes and vaccine carriers regularly.
Ensure IPC standards are observed (hand hygiene, waste management, gloves changed, etc) on a regular basis.
Monitor the vaccine reconstitution and syringe preparation procedures. January 2026 MSFF Maiduguri Administration Office
Verify that injection safety rules are obeyed
Make sure that recording is done correctly (no omissions/double entries).
At the end of the day:
Make sure that the site is cleaned up and supplies put away.
Collect and check all the tally sheets (information complete and correct).
Verify that empty vaccine and diluent vials are gathered and counted, and that their lot number is entered on the tally sheet.
Compile and analyse the results.
Complete the daily vaccination summary.
Estimate and analyse the immunisation coverage.
Calculate the vaccine utilisation rate.
Fill in the vaccination summary table by location.
Share the results with the teams and Nurse Activity Manager
After the campaign:
Participates in the final campaign evaluation and writing the final report.
Note: This job profile is not exhaustive; in addition to the tasks listed above, the Supervisor will be expected to perform any other tasks assigned by his or her managers, depending on the needs of the programme.
