Role Overview
We are seeking a Communications Strategist that will lead the development and execution of strategic communications that amplify intersex voices and strengthen our public presence.
The ideal candidate is a Strategic storyteller, skilled communicator and right-based advocate with experience in graphic design, website management and
They will be responsible for shaping the organization's public image, amplifying intersex voices, and ensuring inclusive, sensitive, and accurate representation of intersex persons in all communications.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organizational goals and advocacy priorities.
Support advocacy campaigns, policy engagement, and public education initiatives through strategic communications.
Ensure consistent branding, messaging, and tone across all communication platforms.
Create and manage annual communication plans and content calendars.
Design high-quality digital materials including social media graphics, infographics, reports, flyers, and campaign assets.
Manage and regularly update the organization's website, ensuring content accuracy, accessibility, and relevance.
Coordinate basic website maintenance, including layout updates, image optimization, and broken-link checks.
Track website and social media analytics to assess performance and improve engagement.
Draft press releases, media statements, and advocacy briefs.
Support media engagement and external communications with partners, donors, and stakeholders.
Ensure ethical, respectful, and consent-based storytelling of intersex experiences.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in communications, Public Relations, Media Studies, or related field.
Minimum of 3 years' experience in communications, media, or advocacy (preferably within a non-profit or rights-based organization).
Strong understanding and commitment to intersex and human rights advocacy.
Proven experience in digital design and visual content creation.
Strong writing, editing skills, and story telling skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
Demonstrated experience in website management and content publishing.
Proficiency in design tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or similar.
Experience managing social media platforms and digital campaigns.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to use Zoho software is a plus.
Required Competencies:
Strong understanding of communication strategies, media engagement, and digital advocacy.
Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Proficiency in managing social media platforms and content creation tools.
Creative thinking and ability to translate complex issues into compelling messages.
Knowledge of intersex and human rights contexts in Nigeria is an asset.
