Lekki Freeport Terminal (LFT) operates as the container terminal at Lekki Deep Sea Port, which is Nigeria's first true deep-sea port and one of the most advanced maritime gateways in West Africa. Strategically positioned within the Lagos Free Zone in Ibeju-Lekki, LFT is dedicated to connecting global trade to Nigeria in a sustainable manner, utilising robust automation, digitisation, and innovation from the moment vessels board to the delivery of cargo while adhering to international safety standards.
The terminal takes advantage of deep water, with a draft of up to 16.5 m, and modern ship-to-shore capabilities, enabling it to accommodate large vessels and handle significant cargo volumes. This is part of a port complex designed to scale for millions of TEUs annually. The depth and infrastructure of the terminal contribute to reducing logistics costs and alleviating congestion along the Lagos corridor, establishing LFT as a key driver of regional trade growth.
As Nigeria’s latest maritime gateway, LFT provides world-class port operations, integrating cutting-edge equipment, data-driven processes, and a culture of innovation to ensure faster, safer, and more reliable cargo flows for both shippers and shipping lines.
The Technical Planner (Container Terminal) is responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure high availability, reliability, and safe operation of container terminal equipment.
The role develops and manages maintenance plans and work orders within the CMMS, ensures full planning readiness before execution, and supports shutdowns, overhauls, and special projects.
By analysing maintenance data and equipment performance, the Technical Planner drives improved reliability, optimised resource utilisation, and reduced breakdowns while ensuring compliance with HSE standards, terminal SOPs, and global best practices in container terminal maintenance planning.
Key Responsibilities
Develop preventive and corrective maintenance plans for STS, RTG, MHC, TT, reefers, and utilities.
Plan weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance schedules using CMMS.
Ensure all work orders are fully planned with manpower, materials, tools, and safety requirements.
Analyse CMMS data for MTBF, MTTR, PM compliance, and breakdown trends.
Coordinate spare parts readiness with Stores and Procurement.
Support shutdowns, overhauls, and major projects with detailed plans.
Ensure compliance with HSE standards and terminal SOPs.
Prepare maintenance planning KPIs and performance reports. Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Preventive Maintenance (PM) plans for all terminal equipment, including STS, RTG, MHC, terminal tractors, trailers, reefer systems, and auxiliary equipment.
Plan and schedule daily, weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance activities in coordination with Operations and Maintenance Supervisors.
Ensure 100% work order planning prior to execution, including scope definition, manpower estimation, spare parts, tools, and safety requirements.
Create, update, and manage work orders in CMMS, ensuring accuracy of job descriptions, estimated hours, materials, and priority levels.
Monitor maintenance execution and ensure planned vs actual performance analysis (man-hours, downtime, spare consumption).
Analyze breakdown history and CMMS data to identify repetitive failures, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
Coordinate with Stores and Procurement to ensure availability of critical spares, minimum stock levels, and timely material readiness before job execution.
Support annual maintenance budget preparation by providing accurate planning data, forecasts, and historical analysis.
Optimize manpower utilization by aligning skill sets, shift coverage, and workload balancing.
Ensure all maintenance planning activities comply with LFT Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies, SOPs, and risk assessments.
Support shutdowns, major overhauls, and special projects by preparing detailed maintenance plans, schedules, and resource loading.
