Job Summary

• Our client is seeking to hire a Head of Costing & Tax. This role is responsible for managing two critical financial functions: product costing/management accounting and corporate taxation.
• The position ensures accurate product cost calculation for pricing and profitability analysis and guarantees full compliance with all federal and state tax regulations.
• The role provides management with essential financial insights for strategic decision-making and safeguards the company against tax risks.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and refine standard costing models for all cable and product lines. Analyse actual production costs against standards, investigate variances, and report on manufacturing efficiency and product profitability.
• Prepare detailed monthly management accounts, including cost of sales, gross margin analysis, and departmental performance reports to support strategic and operational decisions.
• Manage the company’s complete tax portfolio. Ensure accurate computation, timely filing, and payment of all taxes (Company Income Tax, Value Added Tax, Withholding Tax, Tertiary Education Tax, etc.). Develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize the company’s tax position.
• Lead the cost centre budgeting process. Provide detailed costing data and analysis to support the annual operating budget and periodic financial forecasts.
• Oversee the accurate valuation of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods inventory in the financial records in accordance with IFRS.
• Serve as the primary contact for all tax authorities. Coordinate and manage tax audits, investigations, and disputes, ensuring the company’s interests are robustly defended.
• Continuously review and improve costing systems, tax processes, and reporting tools to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and value to the business.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the costing and tax officers, ensuring high-quality output and professional growth.

Requirements

• A minimum of Bachelor’s Degree / HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business Administration.
• Professional certifications are highly valued, such as: CPA (Certified Public Accountant), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), CITN (Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria) or equivalent tax certification depending on jurisdiction.
• At least 2 years of progressive finance/accounting experience, with significant exposure to costing and taxation.
• Proven track record in: Tax planning and compliance (local and international regulations); Cost accounting, budgeting, and variance analysis; Financial reporting and audit coordination.
• Deep knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and compliance frameworks.
• Expertise in costing methodologies, cost control, and profitability analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for financial modelling and tax planning.
• Proficiency in ERP systems and financial software (SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, etc.).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• High integrity and commitment to ethical financial practices.
• Strategic thinker with ability to balance tax efficiency and compliance.
• Detail-oriented, resilient, and adaptable in complex regulatory environments.
