Job Title: Backend Developer

Position Summary

• We are seeking a skilled Backend Developer to design, build, and maintain robust server-side systems and APIs that power web, mobile, and third-party integrations.
• You will focus on scalable architecture, data integrity, security, and performance, collaborating closely with frontend engineers, DevOps, QA, and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing, developing, and documenting RESTful APIs to support frontend applications, mobile apps, and third-party integrations.
• Creating, managing, and optimizing databases using MySQL, PostgreSQL, and other relational database systems, with a strong focus on data integrity and efficient schema design.
• Building, maintaining, and enhancing server-side applications using PHP, Laravel, and other modern backend frameworks.
• Integrating third-party services, SDKs, and APIs (e.g., payment gateways, email services, authentication providers) into existing systems.
• Implementing robust security practices, including authentication, authorization, input validation, data encryption, and protection against common vulnerabilities (SQL injection, XSS, CSRF, etc.).
• Writing clean, scalable, and maintainable code following industry standards, best practices, and design patterns.
• Debugging, identifying root causes, and resolving complex server-side issues to ensure system stability and reliability.
• Optimizing overall application performance, including code refactoring, database query optimization, and caching strategies.
• Collaborating effectively with frontend engineers, UI/UX designers, QA teams, and project managers to deliver high-quality features on schedule.
• Staying updated with current backend trends, tools, and technologies, and applying them where beneficial to ongoing and future projects.
• Implementing new core features, enhancements, and API integrations to improve system functionality.
• Ensuring regular, automated server and database backups to prevent data loss and support disaster recovery.
• Participating in code reviews to maintain coding standards and improve team knowledge-sharing.
• Deploying and maintaining applications across development, staging, and production environments, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Monitoring application performance, logs, and error reports using tools like Laravel Telescope, Sentry, or logging systems.
• Creating and maintaining detailed technical documentation for internal and external use.
• Performing any additional tasks or responsibilities assigned by the Executive or Technical leadership team.
• Any other duties assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 3–5+ years of backend development experience with a track record of building scalable server-side applications.
• Proficiency with PHP and Laravel; experience with other backend frameworks and languages is a plus.
• Strong experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and SQL performance optimization.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs; familiarity with API versioning, rate limiting, and security best practices.
• Knowledge of web security best practices and common vulnerabilities; hands-on experience implementing security controls.
• Familiarity with caching strategies (e.g., Redis, Memcached) and performance tuning.
• Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative workflows; comfortable with CI/CD concepts and tooling.
• Familiarity with server deployment, Linux environments, and cloud services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) is a plus.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, debugging abilities, and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document technical designs clearly.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with microservices architecture and API gateway patterns.
• Knowledge of message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka) and asynchronous processing.
• Experience with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Familiarity with testing strategies, unit/integration tests, and test-driven development.
• Exposure to DevOps practices, monitoring, and incident management.
