Job Title: Senior Quality Assurance Officer
Location: Osun

Job Summary
The Senior Quality Assurance officer will ensure that all products such as powder products and other FMCG food items meet strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
In addition to core QA responsibilities, this role contributes to new product development (NPD) by bringing innovative product ideas, working closely with R&D, and supporting product improvement initiatives that enhance the company’s market competitiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Control:
Oversee quality inspection of raw materials, in process products, and finished goods (milk powder, chocolates, beverage powders, etc.).
Ensure compliance with food safety standards such as NAFDAC, GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000, and FSSC 22000.
Develop, implement, and update QA procedures, SOPs, and quality testing protocols.
Monitor and validate CCPs (Critical Control Points) and QCPs on the production floor.
Approve daily quality reports and ensure full traceability of batches and materials.
Production Line Oversight:
Ensure all beverage and powdered product lines (mixing, blending, evaporating, drying, coating, packaging) meet required specifications.
Conduct routine in line quality checks and verify adherence to hygiene, sanitation, and process controls.
Review production deviations and coordinate CAPA (Corrective Action & Preventive Action).
Laboratory & Testing Management:
Supervise chemical, microbiological, and sensory analysis for all product categories.
Ensure laboratory equipment calibration, accuracy, and reliability of test results.
Approve testing standards for raw materials such as cocoa, dairy inputs, flavors, starches, sugar, etc.
Food Safety & Compliance:
Lead food safety programs including HACCP implementation and internal audits.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for beverage and powdered food products.
Prepare documentation and support external audits by NAFDAC, SON, and certification bodies.
New Product Development & Innovation:
Generate new product ideas for milk powders, chocolate mixes, and other powder categories.
Work with R&D and production teams to:
Test new formulations
Evaluate ingredient performance
Validate shelf-life and product stability
Support pilot trials and plant-scale trials
Provide quality input on packaging materials and labeling requirements.
Assess customer feedback and market trends to propose improvements and new offerings.
Supplier Quality & Raw Material Evaluation:
Approve raw material suppliers and verify material conformity.
Conduct supplier audits and evaluate ingredient quality consistency.
Maintain raw material specifications and monitor supplier performance.
Training & Leadership:
Supervise QA/QC officers, analysts, and line inspectors.
Train staff on QA standards, food safety, hygiene practices, and SOP adherence.
Promote a culture of food safety and continuous quality improvement.
Reporting & Documentation:
Prepare quality reports, non conformance reports, and audit summaries.
Maintain detailed documentation for regulatory audits, plant certifications, and management review.
Track trends in defects, complaints, and product quality to recommend improvements.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Quality consistency across production batches.
Reduction in defects, deviations, and customer complaints.
Successful completion of audits and compliance with standards.
Number and impact of new product ideas contributed.
Effectiveness of CAPA and reduction in recurring issues.
Timeliness and accuracy of QA reporting and documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry, or related field.
Relevant certifications such as HACCP, ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, GMP are an added advantage.
Experience:
5–10+ years of Quality Assurance experience in the milk powder, dairy powder and chocolate powder manufacturing industry.
Strong experience in production of:
Milk powder or dairy powder products
Chocolate beverages or chocolate-based products
Instant drink powders and flavored powder
Hands-on understanding of food processing equipment and quality systems.
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of food safety management systems.
Ability to conduct lab tests (microbiological, sensory, physicochemical).
Familiarity with SPC, root cause analysis, and CAPA tools.
Experience in new product development or product optimization.
