Job Title: Mechatronic Engineer
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos
Employment Type: Contract
Job Summary
The Mechatronics Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and integrating electro-mechanical systems for advanced manufacturing applications, particularly for Unmanned programs and autonomous platforms.
This role bridges mechanical design, electronics, and automation disciplines to deliver high-reliability, precision systems capable of operating under challenging environmental and operational conditions.
Essential Duities and Responsibilities
Lead mechanical–electrical integration design for all Autonomous Systems & subsystems, including assemblies, actuator systems, sensor mounts, and mechanical control linkages, ensuring functional compatibility across hardware domains.
Develop and refine parametric CAD models and detailed assemblies supporting modular, reconfigurable architectures, with attention to manufacturability, serviceability, and environmental protection.
Collaborate with the Robotics and Marine Systems teams to align structural, actuation, and sensor interfaces within digital twin environments for seamless product simulation and validation.
Implement Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to ensure compatibility with Omnifactory LFAM, WAAM, and LPBF platforms.
Perform dynamic and vibration analyses to evaluate structural and mechanical response under propulsion, wave loading, and manoeuvring conditions.
Design and qualify electromechanical components including servo drives, hydraulic actuators, linear motion systems, and mounting frames for precision and reliability.
Support embedded systems integration, ensuring mechanical alignment, cable routing, grounding, and EMI mitigation within enclosures and hull structures.
Conduct environmental validation tests such as IP sealing, shock/vibration endurance, and salt-spray corrosion resistance, ensuring marine-grade performance.
Generate manufacturing drawings, tolerance stacks, and BOMs that meet ISO, ASTM, and applicable quality standards.
Participate in prototyping and field testing, providing on-site engineering support for system assembly, calibration, and alignment.
Develop assembly and maintenance documentation, including standard operating procedures, alignment tools, and service manuals for production teams.
Contribute to design gate reviews (CoDR, PDR, CDR) by presenting mechanical performance data, risk mitigation plans, and manufacturability assessments.
Coordinate with AM Production Engineers to finalize material selection, print orientation, and post-processing requirements for metallic and polymer components.
Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of mechanical or actuation issues encountered during prototype trials or production, recommending corrective actions.
Mentor junior mechatronics engineers and technicians, promoting technical excellence, design discipline, and continuous improvement in product engineering workflows
Qualifications
B.Eng / B.Tech in Mechatronics or Automation Engineering.
4–7 years experience in mechatronic system design, integration, or robotics.
Proficiency in 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks/Fusion 360) and familiarity with electrical / mechanical harness integration.
Understanding of ROS2/PX4 or equivalent embedded control frameworks preferred.
Strong knowledge of materials selection, sealing techniques, and corrosion protection methods for marine environments.
Ability to perform stress and vibration analysis using simulation tools.
Experience in documentation under ISO 9001 and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
Excellent communication, analytical, and collaborative problem-solving skills
Application Closing Date
