Job Title: Urology / Cystoscopy Surgeon
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
The Urology/ Cystoscopy Surgeon plays a vital role in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of complex urological conditions, with an emphasis on cystoscopy procedures.
This includes care for conditions such as urinary tract infections, bladder dysfunction, kidney stones, prostate diseases, and urological cancers.
The role involves performing minimally invasive and open surgical procedures, endoscopic interventions, and managing elective and emergency cases.
The role holder will provide leadership in clinical service delivery, support junior staff education, contribute to research initiatives, and participate in quality improvement processes within the surgical department.
Independently manage a wide range of urological cases, including elective and emergency care.
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic cystoscopy, tumour resections, and stone extractions.
Conduct minimally invasive and open urological procedures, including robotic-assisted surgeries.
Lead or participate in the 24/7 urology on-call rota.
Provide comprehensive patient care from initial consultation through follow-up and recovery.
Ensure accurate documentation of clinical assessments and operative outcomes.
Engage in clinical audits, governance activities, and surgical protocol development.
Serve as a core member of the Urology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and contribute to cancer care planning.
Support the implementation of local and national clinical and quality targets.
Patient-Centred Care:
Provide compassionate and culturally competent care to diverse patient populations.
Deliver thorough, transparent communication with patients and their families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, and expected outcomes.
Ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory standards in patient care.
Training, Leadership & Development:
Mentor and train junior doctors, residents, and clinical support staff.
Contribute to internal training programs and surgical skills workshops.
Promote a learning culture that encourages clinical excellence, innovation, and accountability.
Collaboration & Innovation:
Work closely with other consultants, anaesthetists, oncologists, nursing teams, and allied health professionals to optimize multidisciplinary care.
Contribute to ongoing research projects in the field of urology and minimally invasive surgery.
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in surgical techniques, technologies, and clinical best practices.
Qualifications
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution
Fellowship in Urology or related surgical specialty (e.g., FMCS, FWACS, FRCS or international equivalent)
Certification in advanced endoscopic and minimally invasive surgery
Certification in robotic-assisted urological procedures
Valid license to practice in Nigeria or eligibility for specialist registration
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years post-fellowship experience in urology
Proven expertise in cystoscopy and advanced minimally invasive urological surgery
Leadership experience in a surgical/urology unit
Experience in clinical governance and surgical audit
Exposure to or practice in resource-limited healthcare settings
Published research or academic contribution in urological sciences or surgical techniques
