Job Title: Consultant Oncologist
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
The Consultant Oncologist will provide expert clinical care to patients with cancer and blood disorders.
The role involves leading multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver comprehensive, individualized treatment plans, and contributing to the development of research and educational initiatives.
This individual will play a critical part in shaping the future of cancer care at AMCE by promoting high standards of practice, participating in continuous quality improvement, and championing patient-centred approaches.
Deliver high-quality inpatient and outpatient care to patients referred for cancer and haematological conditions.
Conduct thorough clinical assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and consultations.
Develop and manage individualized, evidence-based treatment plans aligned with best practices and patient preferences.
Participate actively in multidisciplinary meetings and tumour boards to ensure integrated care delivery.
Provide emotional and psychological support to patients and their families.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient records in accordance with regulatory standards.
Clinical Audits and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) regulations and internal policies.
Participate in clinical audits and quality assurance initiatives.
Maintain comprehensive and accurate patient records, adhering to data protection and confidentiality protocols.
Monitor and report quality indicators to ensure excellence in service delivery.
Patient Care and Advocacy:
Address physical and emotional symptoms such as pain, fatigue, and anxiety.
Promote shared decision-making through clear patient education on diagnosis, treatment options, and risks.
Facilitate smooth care transitions by coordinating referrals and follow-up services.
Research and Education:
Conduct and support clinical trials and research projects.
Publish in academic journals and represent AMCE at national and international conferences.
Mentor junior oncologists and allied healthcare professionals.
Develop educational materials and participate in training programs.
Leadership and Administration:
Participate in departmental planning and strategy formulation.
Supervise and support the development of junior staff.
Promote collaboration within the oncology and haematology team.
Identify and implement service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Medical Degree (MBBS, MBChB or its equivalent) from a recognized Institution.
Completion of a residency program.
Post-basic training in oncology.
Completion of post-basic training in oncology.
Valid medical license and registration.
Membership of relevant bodies.
Experience:
Consultant-level experience in the diagnosis and treatment of various cancer types, particularly in a multidisciplinary setting. (5 yrs or more post-completion of specialty training and certification)
Advanced clinical skills, with expertise in managing complex oncology cases and delivering evidence-based care (Advanced Radiotherapy techniques e.g. IMRT, IGRT, SBRT etc.).
Extensive hands-on experience in Brachytherapy is an add-on
Familiarity with clinical trials and research
Prior experience in supervising or mentoring junior medical staff is preferred.
