Job Title: Internal Medicine Physician
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
The Internal Medicine Physician will be responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare to adult patients, focusing on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of a wide range of internal organ-related conditions.
The role holder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care tailored to the unique needs of the patients.
As a specialist in adult medicine, the role holder will manage complex medical cases, often involving chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
He/ She will possess a deep understanding of the interactions between different organ systems, as well as the ability to coordinate care among various specialists when necessary.
The physician will also be responsible for conducting thorough examinations, interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing personalized treatment plans that emphasize patient education and preventive care. In addition to direct patient care, the role holder will contribute to the development of clinical protocols and guidelines that enhance the quality of care provided by the department.
This includes staying informed about the latest medical advancements and integrating evidence-based practices into daily operations.
The physician will also engage in community outreach initiatives aimed at promoting health awareness and disease prevention, thereby improving overall public health outcomes.
Conduct thorough patient assessments, including detailed histories and physical examinations.
Diagnose and manage a range of acute and chronic illnesses, including complex multi-system diseases.
Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic investigations (lab work, imaging, etc.).
Develop and implement evidence-based, patient-centred treatment plans.
Provide preventive care services and health education to patients and their families.
Maintain high-quality, legally compliant, and ethical documentation and patient records.
Leadership and Management:
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate junior medical staff, residents, and interns.
Contribute to departmental operations, workforce planning, and process optimization.
Promote a collaborative and inclusive team culture that supports learning and high performance.
Education and Training:
Deliver teaching sessions and clinical training for junior clinicians and allied health staff.
Engage in professional development programs and support the growth of emerging talent.
Quality Improvement and Governance:
Participate in audits, incident reviews, and patient safety initiatives.
Lead and contribute to the development of clinical protocols and best practices.
Monitor clinical outcomes to support continuous quality improvement.
Research and Development:
Contribute to or lead research initiatives and clinical trials in internal medicine.
Present findings at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals when applicable.

Qualifications
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Completion of a residency in Internal Medicine.
Fellowship certification in Internal Medicine.
Registered (or eligible) on the specialist register with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.
Valid licence to practise medicine.
Evidence of continued professional development.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of post-residency experience in internal medicine.
Strong background in managing adult health issues and chronic diseases.
Demonstrated experience in mentoring and supervising clinical staff.
Familiarity with the healthcare landscape in Nigeria, including cultural sensitivities and challenges.
Experience with electronic medical records and healthcare technology.
