The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a 500-bed specialty hospital offering world-class comprehensive diagnostics and treatment in oncology, cardiovascular, and haematological care, and general medical and surgical services, along with top notch research and education. The AMCE will provide exceptional care to people on the African continent, regardless of their financial means. Developed by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in clinical partnership with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust., AMCE Abuja is the first of five centres planned for development in Africa.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Head, Corporate Communications
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
The Head, Corporate Communications will be responsible for building and safeguarding the AMCE’s brand, ensuring consistent messaging, and leading proactive media relations, public affairs, and strategic engagement with key stakeholders, including government agencies, partners, and the community.
The role will serve as a senior advisor to leadership on all matters relating to reputation management, crisis communications, and corporate positioning.
Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate communications strategy aligned with AMCE’s mission.
Craft compelling narratives and thought leadership to position AMCE as a leader in non-communicable disease care.
Oversee press releases, media briefings, and executive communications.
Monitor global healthcare communication trends and apply best practices.
Ensure brand consistency and compliance with regulatory standards.
Media Relations & Public Relations:
Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and influencers.
Proactively pitch AMCE stories to local and international media.
Manage crisis communications and reputational risks with rapid response protocols.
Track and report on media coverage and sentiment.
Stakeholder & Government Engagement:
Serve as the primary liaison with government agencies, regulatory bodies, and policymakers.
Develop policy briefs, advocacy materials, and coordinate high-level visits.
Monitor policy changes affecting AMCE and recommend response strategies.
Corporate Branding & Reputation Management:
Lead branding initiatives and enforce adherence to brand guidelines.
Oversee AMCE’s participation in industry awards and strategic sponsorships.
Conduct brand audits to measure perception and impact.
Crisis & Risk Communications:
Develop and maintain a crisis communication playbook.
Train leadership and staff on crisis protocols.
Serve as official spokesperson during crises.
Thought Leadership & Public Affairs:
Position AMCE executives as industry thought leaders through op-eds, conferences, and media engagements.
Organize roundtables, webinars, and publish healthcare impact reports.
CSR & Community Engagement:
Execute high-impact CSR initiatives aligned with AMCE’s mission.
Build partnerships with NGOs and donor agencies for health campaigns.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
Master’s degree (MBA or MA in Communications/ Public Relations).
Certification in Strategic Communications, Crisis Communications, or Media Relations is an advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in corporate communications, public affairs, or stakeholder relations — preferably within healthcare, development, or government sectors.
Proven track record in media relations, government engagement, and reputation management.
Demonstrated crisis communications and brand positioning expertise.
Media training and spokesperson experience.
Proficiency in analytics and measuring communication impact.
