The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE) Abuja is a 500-bed specialty hospital offering world-class comprehensive diagnostics and treatment in oncology, cardiovascular, and haematological care, and general medical and surgical services, along with top notch research and education. The AMCE will provide exceptional care to people on the African continent, regardless of their financial means. Developed by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in clinical partnership with King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust., AMCE Abuja is the first of five centres planned for development in Africa.
We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Facility Supervisor
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
The Facility Supervisor will assist the Facility Manager in ensuring the operational efficiency, safety, and maintenance of AMCE’s facilities.
This role involves overseeing daily facility operations, supervising maintenance staff, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
The role holder will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Facility Maintenance and Operations:
Oversee daily maintenance activities, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
Ensure all equipment is functioning optimally and report malfunctions promptly.
Implement preventive maintenance schedules and document completed tasks.
Supervise repairs and minor renovations to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
Maintain an inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies.
Coordinate with biomedical teams to ensure medical equipment is properly maintained.
Safety and Compliance:
Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
Ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards (e.g., JCI, OSHA).
Train staff on safety protocols, emergency procedures, and infection control measures.
Maintain records of safety certifications, inspections, and incident reports.
Investigate accidents or safety violations and implement corrective actions.
Oversee waste disposal and ensure adherence to environmental guidelines.
Space and Resource Management:
Optimize space utilization for clinical and non-clinical areas.
Ensure patient and staff areas are clean, functional, and well-maintained.
Oversee storage facilities and inventory management.
Implement signage and wayfinding systems for ease of navigation.
Assist in planning and executing minor facility upgrades or relocations.
Monitor and report any space-related issues to the Facility Manager.
Emergency Preparedness:
Participate in emergency preparedness drills and training sessions.
Ensure backup systems (e.g., generators, emergency lighting) are operational.
Maintain emergency contact lists and update them quarterly.
Assist in developing and updating disaster recovery plans.
Coordinate with local authorities during emergencies.
Conduct post-emergency evaluations and recommend improvements.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Address facility-related concerns from staff, patients, and visitors.
Collaborate with clinical teams to resolve urgent facility requests.
Gather feedback on facility conditions and report to the Facility Manager.
Assist in internal communications about facility updates or changes.
Ensure staff facilities meet ergonomic and comfort standards.
Participate in cross-departmental meetings to align facility services with hospital needs.
Education, Skills and Competencies
Degree in Facility Management, Engineering, or related field.
Strong experience managing healthcare or large-scale facilities.
Knowledge of healthcare regulations (e.g., JCI, OSHA), building codes, and safety standards.
Strong project management, budgeting, and negotiation skills.
Proficiency in facility management software.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement.
Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
Strong organizational and project management skills.
