Job Title: Consultant Internal Medicine / Endocrinologist
Location: Abuja
Job Purpose
The Consultant Internal Medicine/ Endocrinologist will provide expert, high-quality, and patient-centred care for adults with a wide range of endocrine, metabolic, and general medical conditions.
The role holder will be responsible for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of patients, serving as a key specialist within our multi-disciplinary team.
The role also involves teaching, mentoring junior medical staff, and contributing to clinical excellence and innovation in endocrinology and diabetes care.
Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities
Clinical Care and Patient Management:
Provide comprehensive consultant-level care for inpatients and outpatients with conditions including diabetes mellitus, thyroid disorders, pituitary and adrenal diseases, metabolic bone diseases, obesity, and lipid disorders.
Perform and interpret specialized diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to endocrinology.
Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans for patients, ensuring the highest standards of evidence-based practice.
Provide expert consultation to colleagues in other specialties on endocrine and metabolic aspects of patient care.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team including dieticians, diabetes nurse educators, surgeons, ophthalmologists, and cardiologists to provide integrated patient care.
Lead or actively participate in multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings to discuss complex patient cases.
Quality Assurance and Clinical Governance:
Adhere to and promote all hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and protocols.
Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement initiatives, and risk management activities to enhance patient safety and service delivery.
Ensure full compliance with all national and international regulatory and accreditation standards.
Education, Training, and Research:
Provide teaching, training, supervision, and mentorship to medical officers, residents, interns, and other healthcare professionals.
Contribute to the department’s educational program through grand rounds, seminars, and workshops.
Engage in and promote clinical research activities to advance the field of endocrinology and improve patient outcomes.
Administrative Duties:
Participate in the development and implementation of service strategies and new clinical programs within the department.
Ensure accurate, legible, and timely completion of all clinical records and documentation.
Qualifications
Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
Fellowship or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology from a recognized international board
Possession of a valid medical license.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of experience post-qualification in Internal Medicine, with a significant focus on Endocrinology.
Proven experience in managing a broad range of complex endocrine and metabolic disorders.
Demonstrable experience in teaching and supervising junior medical staff.
Experience in clinical research and a record of publications is highly desirable.
