Job Title: Surfer Technician
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Roles & Responsibilities
Vessel Propulsion & Auxiliary Systems Maintenance:
- Perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on Surfer/Crew boat propulsion systems, including inboard/outboard engines, jet propulsion units, and transmission assemblies to ensure peak operational performance and reliability.
- Conduct precision alignment of propulsion shafts, calibration of control linkages, and inspection of steering hydraulics to maintain maneuverability and safety under dynamic sea conditions.
Electrical, Hydraulic & Mechanical System Integration:
- Troubleshoot and service integrated vessel systems encompassing electrical distribution panels, hydraulic winches, bilge pumps, fuel transfer systems, and fire suppression equipment in accordance with class-approved maintenance standards.
- Apply predictive maintenance techniques using vibration analysis, thermography, and oil condition monitoring to preempt system failures.
Operational Readiness & Pre-Deployment Assurance:
- Execute comprehensive pre-departure inspections, functional tests, and sea trials to verify the vessel’s technical readiness before offshore deployment.
- Collaborate with vessel masters and marine superintendents to ensure all operational parameters meet client and regulatory requirements.
Technical Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs, service reports, and defect records in compliance with the company’s Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and OEM documentation standards.
- Generate condition reports highlighting observed anomalies, component wear trends, and recommendations for preventive or corrective actions.
Inventory & Spare Parts Management:
- Manage the technical spares inventory for Surfer vessels, ensuring critical components (filters, injectors, impellers, seals, gaskets) are available and replaced in accordance with scheduled maintenance cycles.
- Raise material requisitions and liaise with procurement for the timely replacement of consumables and spare parts.
Collaborative Engineering Support:
- Work closely with marine engineers, technical superintendents, and the fleet maintenance coordinator in implementing reliability improvement initiatives.
- Assist in the installation and commissioning of new equipment upgrades and retrofits to enhance vessel performance and operational efficiency.
HSE & Compliance Adherence:
- Uphold stringent safety standards during maintenance operations, ensuring compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, MARPOL, and company-specific HSE policies.
- Participate in safety drills, toolbox talks, and contribute to a proactive safety culture within the fleet maintenance team.
Qualifications & Requirements
Academic & Professional Credentials:
- Advanced diploma or degree (HND, B.Tech, or B.Sc.) in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or Offshore Vessel Technology from a recognized institution.
- Completion of specialized professional training in Marine Propulsion Diagnostics, Hydraulic Systems Engineering, and Advanced Vessel Maintenance is highly desirable.
- Certifications in STCW (Safety, Survival & Emergency Training), HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training), and Offshore Safety & Vessel Operations are preferred.
Experience & Technical Expertise:
- Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fast intervention craft, crew boats, or high-speed offshore support vessels.
- Proven expertise in inboard/outboard propulsion systems, jet drives, marine transmission assemblies, and shaft alignment, with a track record of ensuring maximum operational reliability in offshore environments.
- Advanced skills in integrated vessel systems diagnostics, including hydraulic winches, bilge pumps, fuel transfer systems, fire suppression equipment, and electrical distribution networks.
- Demonstrated ability to employ predictive maintenance techniques, such as vibration analysis, thermography, and oil condition monitoring, to prevent unscheduled downtime.
Operational Competencies:
- Ability to execute pre-deployment inspections, functional tests, and sea trials, ensuring vessels meet stringent client and regulatory operational standards.
- Proficiency in Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS), OEM technical documentation, and maintenance recordkeeping, with a focus on reliability and compliance.
- Competence in managing spares and consumables inventories, coordinating with procurement, and forecasting material needs for uninterrupted vessel readiness.
Leadership & Professional Attributes:
- Strong collaboration skills to work with marine engineers, fleet superintendents, and technical coordinators on reliability improvement initiatives.
