Job Title: Technical Superintendent
Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time
Roles & Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive technical management and lifecycle oversight of assigned offshore support vessels — including Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessels (AHTSVs), and crew transfer crafts.
Ensure all vessels under management maintain optimum technical readiness, seaworthiness, and compliance with class, flag, and client requirements.
Develop, plan, and execute preventive and corrective maintenance schedules, including dry-docking, refits, and special surveys in alignment with Class and OEM specifications.
Perform condition monitoring and root cause analysis of mechanical, propulsion, and auxiliary systems to prevent unplanned downtime.
Monitor fuel and lube oil consumption trends, machinery performance data, and vibration/thermographic reports to identify early warning indicators.
Coordinate and supervise repairs, retrofits, and equipment upgrades in collaboration with shipyards, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), and third-party service providers.
Conduct technical audits, risk assessments, and failure investigations to ensure continuous improvement in asset reliability and operational safety.
Prepare and manage technical budgets (OPEX and CAPEX), ensuring cost efficiency while maintaining operational integrity.
Maintain detailed technical documentation and maintenance records in Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) such as AMOS, TM Master, or NS5.
Provide technical advice and engineering support to vessel crews and shore-based management on complex machinery or system-related issues.
Liaise closely with classification societies, flag state inspectors, and port authorities to ensure vessels remain in full compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, and other statutory regulations.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing fleet performance, safety standards, and energy efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree (B.Eng/B.Sc.) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Naval Architecture from a recognized institution.
A Master’s Degree in Marine Technical Management or Offshore Engineering will be an advantage.
Professional Certification:
Valid Certificate of Competency (COC) Class 1 or Class 2 – Motor or Steam, issued under STCW Regulation III/2 or equivalent.
Certification in ISM Internal Auditing, HSE Level 3, and Condition Monitoring (Vibration/Infrared Analysis) preferred.
Familiarity with OCIMF-OVID inspection protocols, IMCA technical standards, and ISO 9001/14001 systems is desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of 8–12 years of hands-on marine engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a superintendent or senior shipboard engineering capacity.
Demonstrated experience with offshore support vessels, diesel propulsion systems, auxiliary equipment, and dynamic positioning systems.
Proven expertise in dry-docking management, class surveys, defect analysis, and technical project execution.
Technical Competencies:
Proficiency in Planned Maintenance Systems (PMS) such as AMOS, TM Master, NS5, or Maximo.
Strong understanding of class and flag regulations, OEM technical manuals, and statutory maritime conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS).
Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, and analytical skills with the ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical schematics.
Leadership & Communication Skills:
Strong team leadership and mentoring abilities for technical and vessel crew personnel.
Effective communicator capable of engaging clients, vendors, and regulatory bodies.
High sense of professionalism, integrity, and operational accountability.
Other Requirements:
Valid offshore survival (BOSIET/FOET), medical fitness, and seafarer documentation.
Willingness to travel offshore and to international shipyards as operationally required.
Strong report writing and digital literacy (MS Office, AutoCAD, and marine data software).
