Mosra Energy Limited Nigeria (MEL)is a well-established coal mining company with over 15 years experience in the industry. We are operating coal mines in Kogi and Delta States. In addition to our current operations, we have several other coal blocks under exploration in Nsukka/Udenu, Enugu State, Dekina LGA, Kogi State, and Ogbadibo LGA, Benue State.

Description

• Mosra Energy is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Power Plant Engineer to support the operation, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems for its coal-to-power generation project.
• The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring reliable power generation, safe plant operation, and compliance with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards.
• The role requires deep technical expertise in coal fired power plant electrical systems, substations, power distribution networks, and balance of plant equipment within an industrial power generation environment.

Key Responsibilities
Power Plant Operations & Maintenance:

• Manage day to day electrical operations of the coal-fired power plant, including generators, auxiliaries, and substations.
• Operate and maintain generators, excitation systems, and step up transformers connected to coal-fired boilers and turbines.
• Conduct fault diagnostics, repairs, and corrective maintenance on LV/MV/HV switchgear, ACBs, VCBs, protection relays, and power cables.
• Ensure reliable evacuation of generated power to the grid or captive load.

Electrical Systems & Balance of Plant:

• Provide technical leadership for electrical systems supporting coal handling, pulverizers, conveyors, ash handling plants, ID/FD/PA fans, cooling systems, and water treatment units.
• Maintain and troubleshoot motors, VFDs, soft starters, DOL and Star-Delta starters across plant auxiliaries.
• Operate and maintain MCC and PCC panels for plant-wide electrical distribution.

Control, Protection & Instrumentation:

• Maintain and troubleshoot PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems associated with coal-to-power operations.
• Calibrate and maintain instrumentation for boiler, turbine, emissions monitoring, and auxiliary systems.
• Ensure proper functioning of protection systems including relays, CTs, PTs, and interlocks.

Preventive Maintenance & Compliance:

• Develop and implement OEM- and statutory-compliant preventive maintenance programs for all electrical assets.
• Ensure accurate documentation and reporting in line with ISO standards, grid codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Support environmental compliance related to emissions control systems (ESP, FGD, ash handling).
• Enforce strict adherence to HSE policies and best practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master’s degree is an advantage).
• Minimum of 10–15 years’ experience in coal-fired power plant operations or large thermal power plants.
• Strong expertise in generators, transformers, substations, protection systems, and plant auxiliaries.
• Hands-on experience with PLC/DCS/SCADA systems, MCC/PCC panels, VFDs, and instrumentation.
• Strong understanding of grid interconnection, power evacuation, and plant protection schemes.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, and OEM manuals.
• Strong leadership, troubleshooting, and safety management skills.
• Knowledge of ISO standards, environmental regulations, and HSE requirements.
