We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Head of Marketing

Location: SCL Operations Hub (Farm), Maitama Office, and Market Locations - Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time

Direct Reporting To: Market Development & Innovation Lead
Dotted Reporting To: Director, Business & Systems Development.

Role Purpose

  • The Head of Marketing is responsible for driving SCL’s market-facing activities by supporting product development, market research, customer insight generation, innovation commercialisation, and go-to-market execution. The role ensures that SCL’s agricultural products, services, and innovations are effectively positioned, competitive, market-relevant, and aligned with SCL’s Future Food Systems strategy.
  • The Head of Marketing will work closely with internal teams (Greenhouse Production team, Operations, Sustainability, Finance, and Innovation partners) to translate market intelligence into actionable marketing strategies that support sustainable growth, farmer impact, and commercial success.
  • Also, the Head of Marketing will provide active leadership for the marketing team, to lead in the sales of all SCL products, generation of new customers and maintain relationships with existing clients.

Key Objectives

  • To ensure the sale of all SCL products.
  • Strengthen SCL’s market presence and brand positioning across agricultural value chains
  • Successful development, launch, and scaling of SCL products and services
  • Generate reliable market intelligence to inform strategic decisions
  • Enhance customer experience, satisfaction, and loyalty
  • Support innovation incubation, partnerships, and commercialisation initiatives
  • Drive market entry and expansion strategies aligned with SCL’s mission and values

Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Marketing & Field Execution:

  • Take full responsibility for market operations, managing product flow from production through distribution and sales.
  • Develop, sustain, and manage strong relationships with existing SCL customers, ensuring consistent delivery of products and high-quality customer service.
  • Proactively identify, attract, and onboard new customers across different possible markets, such as but not limited to wholesalers, retailers, hotels, and supermarkets etc. In addition, the Head of Marketing is responsible for agreements with large-scale buyers such as Off-takers, Manufacturers, Exporters etc.
  • Continuous product availability by coordinating with production, store, and logistics teams to avoid stock-outs and delays in order fulfilment.
  • Collaborate closely with the organic store and operations teams to conduct routine stock-taking, inventory monitoring, and physical verification of products.
  • Carry out sales, stock, and revenue reconciliation, ensuring that quantities supplied, sales records, cash collections, and inventory balances align with store and finance records.
  • Promptly report and resolve variances, losses, or discrepancies identified during stock counts or sales reconciliation in line with internal control procedures.
  • Prepare and submit daily/weekly market, sales, and reconciliation reports to management to support transparency and informed decision-making.
  • Monitor market trends, pricing, and customer feedback to support sales growth and market expansion initiatives.

Practical Market Research & Data Collection:

  • Conduct routine market surveys in physical markets, retail outlets, and rural communities
  • Track competitor pricing, packaging, promotions, and distribution methods
  • Gather data on customer preferences, buying patterns, and seasonal demand trends
  • Maintain simple market databases (prices, volumes, customer lists, competitor activity)
  • Translate raw market data into short, actionable insight briefs for management.

Product Support & Improvement:

  • Coordinate product sampling, pilot sales, and customer trials
  • Document customer complaints, product issues, and improvement suggestions
  • Work with internal teams to adjust packaging, pricing, messaging, or product features based on feedback
  • Support quality assurance checks related to market presentation and customer expectations.

Customer Relationship & Experience Management:

  • Build and maintain relationships with buyers, distributors, aggregators, and key customers
  • Can serve as a contact person for customer enquiries, receiving orders, and follow-ups on delivery request
  • Track customer satisfaction and repeat purchase behaviour
  • Support customer retention initiatives and loyalty programmes
  • Ensure professional and consistent communication with customers across all channels.

Marketing Communication & Promotion;

  • Support creation and distribution of marketing materials (flyers, banners, product briefs, social media content)
  • Assist in managing SCL’s digital presence (basic social media updates, product photos, announcements)
  • Coordinate participation in trade fairs, exhibitions, and stakeholder events
  • Ensure correct branding, messaging, and product information in all marketing materials.

Go-to-Market & Sales Enablement Support:

  • Assist in preparing simple go-to-market plans for new products
  • Support pricing reviews based on market realities and competitor data
  • Help onboard distributors and sales partners with product information and basic training
  • Track sales performance and market uptake of products
  • Flag risks such as slow movement, stockpile-up, or price resistance early.

Innovation & Partnership Support:

  • Support implementation of innovation pilots, demonstrations, and trials
  • Coordination of startups, technology providers, and research partners during field activities
  • Document innovation outcomes, lessons learnt, and adoption challenges
  • Participate in innovation events, farmer engagements, and pilot reviews.

Reporting, Documentation & SOP Compliance:

  • Prepare weekly and monthly marketing activity and market insight reports
  • Maintain organised records of market visits, customer contacts, and research data
  • Follow approved SOPs for market research, customer engagement, and product launches
  • Escalate field challenges, risks, or deviations promptly
  • Support audits, reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Departmental Procedure and Compliance:
 The Head of Marketing shall:

  • Follow approved procedures for market research, product development, customer insight, and commercialisation
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and documentation of all market data and reports
  • Participate in quality control reviews and continuous improvement processes.

Tools and Materials:

  • Market research and survey platforms
  • Data analysis and visualisation tools
  • Customer relationship and feedback systems
  • Competitive intelligence tools
  • Project management and collaboration platforms
  • Product documentation and reporting templates.

Key Performance Indicator

  • Develop and execute an approved annual marketing strategy that strengthens SCL’s brand visibility, sustainability positioning, and alignment with the 4 I’s.
  • Generate qualified leads and measurable demand that directly supports sales growth, market expansion, and revenue targets.
  • Effectively market SCL’s agro-products, training programmes, and services, driving uptake and successful product launches.
  • Grow SCL’s digital presence through increased website traffic, social media engagement, and digital lead conversion.
  • Deliver impactful stakeholder, community, and partnership campaigns that enhance trust, visibility, and institutional relationships.
  • Manage the marketing budget efficiently, ensuring cost control, accountability, and positive return on marketing investment.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing marketing team while collaborating effectively across departments.
  • Provide timely marketing reports, adopt innovative marketing approaches, and ensure compliance with organisational policies.
  • Accuracy of competitive intelligence and insights.

Qualification and Experience
Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, Agribusiness, Business Administration, Economics, or related field
  • Master’s Degree or Additional certification is a plus.

Experience:

  • 3 years and above of experience in marketing, and in leading marketing team, market research, or business development (agriculture or FMCG preferred)
  • Experience supporting product launches and market research projects
  • Exposure to agricultural value chains, sustainability, or food systems is an advantage
  • Candidate must be 27 years or above
  • Candidates must be Male or Female preferably Female.
