Role Summary
The Head of Stores is responsible for the strategic and operational management of all store activities, ensuring optimal inventory levels, strong internal controls, and accurate ERP-driven reporting.
The role supports uninterrupted plant operations while safeguarding company assets, reducing waste, and improving cost efficiency across consumables, spares and raw material support items.
Responsibilites
Strategic Inventory Control:
Develop and enforce inventory control systems that balance availability, cost efficiency, and risk management.
Monitor stock trends to prevent overstocking, stock-outs, obsolescence, and emergency procurement.
Operational Store Management:
Oversee receipt, storage, issuance, and documentation of all materials, spares, and consumables.
Ensure all stock movements are accurately captured on Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) in real time.
ERP Reporting Discipline:
Maintain complete integrity of ERP store data, ensuring alignment between physical stock and system records.
Produce daily, weekly, and monthly inventory reports to support management decision-making.
Internal Controls Compliance:
Enforce strict adherence to company policies, segregation of duties, and audit requirements.
Coordinate periodic and surprise stock counts, reconciliations, and audit reviews.
Cost Waste Reduction:
Track consumption patterns and collaborate with production and maintenance teams to reduce wastage.
Flag slow-moving, obsolete, or excess inventory and recommend corrective actions.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Work closely with Plant Operations, Accounts, Procurement, and Internal Audit to ensure transparency and control.
Support budgeting, variance analysis, and year-end stock valuation exercises.
People Safety Leadership
Lead, train, and discipline store personnel to ensure accountability, accuracy, and compliance with safety standards.
Promote a culture of responsibility, integrity, and continuous improvement within the stores’ function.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Inventory accuracy rate (physical vs ERP)
Reduction in stock variances, losses and write-offs
Timeliness and quality of ERP updates and reports
Reduction in emergencies and unplanned material requests
Audit findings related to store operations
Efficiency in consumables and spares utilization.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related disciplines.
Experience:
Minimum of 12 years experience in stores or inventory management within a manufacturing environment (steel, FMCG, or heavy industry preferred).
The candidate must possess a minimum of 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in the steel industry, with demonstrated responsibility for managing the store’s function within TMT iron rod or melting shop plant operations
Proven experience working with internal audit and finance teams.
Professional Certification:
Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Navision) or similar ERP systems.
