The University of Abuja (now Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja) was established in January 1988. It is Nigeria's first dual-mode University with a mandate for both conventional and distance learning education. Academic activities commenced in 1990 and a portion of land measuring 11,678.28 hectares was allocated to it by the then President of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, GCFR for continuous expansion.
Today, the University has a College of Health Sciences, 17 faculties, over 70 undergraduate programmes, a revitalised Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education, a School of Postgraduate Studies, an Institute of Education, and a thriving Business School, along with multiple research centres and institutes.

The Job
The University Librarian is the Chief Administrative Officer of the University Library and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and coordination of the Library of the University.
Requirements
The candidate must have a good honours Degree plus Master`s and Ph.D. in Library and Information Science from a recognized University with at least fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in the University system
Must have been a Deputy University Librarian/Reader/Associate Professor for a minimum of five (5) years;
Be knowledgeable about the operations of the University Library system and competent to advise and take executive actions on matters of planning, coordinating, management in realization of the cardinal objectives of the University Library;
Demonstrate evidence of mentorship skills and resourcefulness in advancing administrative principles, processes, procedures and practices in a university systern;
Be proficient in Information Communication Technology (ICT) and current in deploying it at the level required for efficient job performance;
Must be physically and mentally fit as may be determined by a Government Hospital;
Must submit a statement of vision and strategies for the University Library in not more than 1,000 words;
Must submit a signed application letter written in Times New Roman, font size 14 in a single line spacing:

Must not be older than 65 years at the time of appointment.
Conditions of Service
The appointment shall be for a single term of five (5) years only, while salary and allowances shall be as applicable to the post of University Librarian in Nigerian Federal Universities, as may be determined by the Federal Government and Governing Council from time-to-time.
