Job Title: Nurse - Peak Season

Mission and Objective
The Nurse is responsible for all aspects related to the proper management of the patients in accordance with the standards established by ALIMA, as well as the medical supply within the ICRC.
In compliance with ALIMA standard practices and protocols, ensure Good Patient Nursing management.
Cultivate a relationship with the MoH stakeholders to implement efficiently and ensure the goals as well as to improve the targeted population’s health conditions and humanitarian situation.
Task and Responsibilities
Patient Management:
Provide adequate and timely quality nursing care, treatment, and follow-up to patients hospitalized in the Lassa Fever ward.
Follow up on blood transfusions, ensuring that patients who need blood transfusions get it as quickly as possible. Also, ensure that every unit of blood is duly recorded and documented.
Follow up on Hemodialysis sessions, assist the renal nurses during some procedures when time permits.
Offer psychological Support to patients and relatives while considering the health promotional component to the affected population.
Know, promote, implement, and follow at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules, and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensure high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment.
Organize and carry out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, as well as assist medical staff during consultations/ daily rounds and other medical procedures.
Ensure patients are properly received and installed in the health service. Ensures that patients with a lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements, and comfort.
Respect medical secrets and confidentiality.
Carry out admission, surveillance, and follow-up of patients, meaning assessment of their health state evolution, and identification of any emergency or any deterioration,
Participate in health education of the patient and caretakers (hygiene, nutrition, preventive care, safety, etc.), accessing the assigned facility or work location.
Participate in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (carrying out inventories, carrying out stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover, ensuring no material is taken out of the nursing area/wards without prior authorization, checking its quality and its functioning, storage conditions, doing follow-up of expired drugs in the ward unit, etc.).
Carry out and supervise administrative procedures and documents (fill in patients' files, forms, consumptions, statistics, etc.), ensure an appropriate written/oral handover, and report any problematic situations and cases that may arise. Fill in all necessary registers and health files, participate in data collection, and keep Doctors/Supervisors informed.
Pay attention to PEP and report urgently any incident. Be aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit.
Research Activities:
Perform prescreening and screening assessments of potential study participants for possible enrollment in the integrated study.
Obtain informed consent from potential study participants, providing clear and understandable information about the research and ensuring the consent form is well signed.
Administer prescribed IMP/SCD and concomitant medications to study participants and ensure proper documentation and time.
Support in the transportation of collected samples to the Lab whiling maintain the IPC precautions.
Conduct phone call interviews and follow up with study participants.
Collaborate with the teams to ensure protocol adherence to GCP guidelines and local regulations compliance.
Sample Collection & Pharmacy:
Ensure that Blood samples are taken as ordered by the Doctor. If needed.
Ensure the follow-up of stocks and inform the medical referent on the state of stocks (shortage, overstock, expiry dates...); also, remove expired products from stock in the ward Unit.
Support the Pharmacy in doing inventories and departmental orders.
Ensure patient safety by complying with the protocol and the Rational drug use with the support of Project Pharmacy
Report:
In collaboration with the medical doctors and other Nurses contribute to the weekly Monthly report for the clinical part.
Ensure weekly data is entered on the drive by Monday
Meetings and others:
Attend to trainings or meetings, as directed by the Medical Referent.
Perform any other tasks within the scope of this role, as directed by supervision and according to the needs of the mission.
Requirements
Educational Qualification and Experience:
Degree / Diploma of nursing related studies or medical profile
Registered With Nigerian Nursing Council
At least 2 years’ experience Post Qualified
Previous experience with ALIMA or other NGOs in developing countries is desirable.
Previous experience working on a research project/ Lassar fever management.
