Pentagonia Workforce Solutions - Our client, a reputable Christian organisation headquartered in Ibadan, Nigeria, committed to spiritual growth, leadership development, and community impact, is seeking to strengthen its institutional framework through a comprehensive HR restructuring initiative.

The organisation currently does not operate a formal Human Resources Department and requires a seasoned HR Consultant to design and implement a structured, compliant, and sustainable HR function from the ground up.

They are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Human Resources Consultant

Location: Ibadan, Oyo (Open to flexibility after the first one-month)
Employment Type: Contract
Duration: 6 Months
Proposed Start Date: Immediate / As agreed

Job Summary

  • The Human Resources Consultant will be engaged for a six-month contract to conduct a full HR audit, develop and institutionalise HR policies and procedures, design an appropriate organisational structure, and establish a fully functional HR Department aligned with best practices and Christian organisational values.
  • The role requires a hands-on professional with demonstrable experience in church or ministry HR, organisational restructuring, and policy development within a faith-based context.

Key Responsibilities
Organisational & HR Diagnostic Review:

  • Conduct a comprehensive audit of current workforce structure, employment arrangements, volunteer systems, and administrative processes.
  • Review documentation, contracts, role clarity, reporting lines, and governance practices.
  • Identify compliance gaps, operational inefficiencies, and risk exposures.
  • Produce a detailed HR Diagnostic Report with practical recommendations.

Organisational Structuring & Role Design:

  • Design or refine a clear organisational structure with defined reporting lines.
  • Develop and standardise job descriptions across pastoral, administrative, operational, and support roles.
  • Propose role grading and workforce planning frameworks.
  • Provide advisory support to leadership on restructuring implementation.

HR Department Establishment:

  • Design the structure and operating model of the HR Department.
  • Develop HR workflows, documentation standards, and record management systems.
  • Recommend required HR staffing needs (where applicable).
  • Establish employee records systems (manual and/or digital).

Policy Development & Governance Framework:
Develop and implement a comprehensive HR Policy Manual including, but not limited to:

  • Recruitment and Selection Policy
  • Onboarding and Induction Framework
  • Code of Conduct and Ethics
  • Performance Management Framework
  • Compensation and Benefits Guidelines
  • Leave and Time-Off Policy
  • Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures
  • Volunteer Management Policy
  • Safeguarding and Confidentiality Policies
  • Exit Management Procedures

Ensure policies align with:

  • Nigerian Labour Law and statutory regulations
  • Governance standards applicable to faith-based organisations
  • The organisation’s Christian doctrine and values

Performance & Talent Management Systems:

  • Design a structured performance appraisal system.
  • Develop KPIs and evaluation templates.
  • Create a Staff Handbook.
  • Provide guidance on leadership development and succession planning.

Change Management & Implementation Support:

  • Facilitate stakeholder engagement sessions.
  • Conduct training workshops on newly developed HR systems and policies.
  • Provide advisory support to leadership throughout implementation.
  • Drive organisational buy-in and smooth transition processes.

Documentation & Final Handover:

  • Deliver a complete HR Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Provide HR templates and operational toolkits.
  • Develop a 12–24 month HR strategic roadmap.
  • Conduct final presentation and handover session to leadership

Requirements
Education & Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Professional HR certification (CIPM or equivalent) is required.
  • Master’s degree is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • 7–8 years progressive HR experience.
  • Proven experience working within a church, ministry, or Christian faith-based organisation (mandatory).
  • Demonstrated experience in HR restructuring, policy development, or HR department set-up.
  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian Labour Law and regulatory compliance.
