Job Title: Senior Corporate Relations Officer

Job Summary
The Senior Corporate Relations Officer is responsible for leading the organization’s corporate communications, stakeholder engagement, media relations, and community affairs strategy.
The role ensures alignment of corporate messaging with organizational objectives, protects the company’s reputation, and strengthens relationships with key stakeholders including regulators, host communities, media, and partners.
The role also provides supervisory oversight to junior corporate relations staff and ensures compliance with corporate governance, communication standards, and group-wide directives.
Develop and implement corporate communication strategies aligned with organizational goals.
Oversee preparation of high-level draft letters, memos, speeches, reports, position papers, and executive correspondences.
Ensure consistency in corporate messaging across all internal and external platforms.
Provide advisory support to Executive Management on reputational risk and communication matters.
Media & Public Relations Management:
Lead media monitoring, review, and analysis of publications for management attention and action.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with media houses and journalists.
Draft press releases, media briefs, and official statements.
Manage crisis communication and reputation management strategies.
Coordinate press conferences and public announcements.
Community & Stakeholder Engagement:
Analyze community relations issues and design proactive engagement strategies.
Lead community engagement programs and stakeholder forums.
Manage relationships with host communities, regulatory agencies, NGOs, and relevant authorities.
Develop Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and track impact.
Resolve escalated community grievances in collaboration with relevant departments.
Digital & Corporate Platforms Management:
Provide oversight for the implementation and management of corporate websites and social media platforms.
Approve digital content to ensure compliance with corporate standards.
Monitor online engagement trends and recommend improvements.
Ensure brand positioning and digital reputation management.
Policy & Compliance Oversight:
Contribute to policy development and analysis within the department.
Ensure departmental compliance with group-wide administrative and management directives.
Develop and maintain communication policies, SOPs, and brand guidelines.
Ensure accurate filing and documentation of corporate relations activities.
Reporting & Documentation:
Prepare periodic reports on stakeholder engagement, media coverage, and community relations activities.
Maintain structured documentation of communication records, agreements, and engagements.
Provide executive summaries for management decision-making.
Leadership & Supervision:
Supervise and mentor Corporate Relations Officers and support staff.
Assign tasks and monitor performance delivery.
Support staff capacity development through coaching and training.
Other Duties:
Perform other strategic assignments as directed by the Head of Department or Executive Management.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication, Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Business Administration, or related field (minimum of Second Class Upper or equivalent).
Master’s Degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business Administration (MBA), or related discipline is an added advantage.
Professional Certifications (Advantageous):
Membership of recognized professional bodies such as:
Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR)
Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM)
Institute of Corporate Affairs Management (ICAM)
Certification in Crisis Communication or Corporate Governance is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 7 years progressive experience in Corporate Relations, Public Affairs, Communications, or related field.
At least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Experience in a structured corporate organization (e.g., mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, financial services, or large conglomerate) preferred.
