The National Institute for Sports (NIS) was conceptualized in 1972. It was formally established in 1974 by the Administration of then Head of State and Commander in-Chief of Armed Forces of Nigeria, Gen. Yakubu Gowon based on the need by the government to improve Nigeria’s performance in international sporting competition. The Law granting its autonomy, Decree 31 was promulgated on the 8th of July 1992. The National Institute for Sports is a research and training Institute. It is a Parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The National Institute for Sports has it's educational arm situated in the National Stadium Complex, Surulere Lagos while the Athletes development centre is situated at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Complex, Abuja.
In accordance with the provisions of the act establishing the Institute, the Director General/CEO on behalf of the Govening Council invites application from suitably qualified candidates with requisite experience to fill the vacant position below:

The Position of the Librarian
The Institute Librarian is the head of the Institute's Library and shall be responsible to the Director General / CEO for the overall administration of the Institute Library, it's branches and extensions.
He shall provide Library services for the entire Institute Community.
Requirements
The candidate for the post of Librarian must possess a minimum of a Master's Degree in Library Science from a recognised university.
The candidate is also expected to:
Not be below the rank of a Deputy Librarian, who has spent at least three (3) years on the post.
Have a considerable number of scholarly publications in reputable journals.
Be a member of the following:
Librarian Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN)
Nigeria Library Association (NLA)
Be proficient in Information & Communication Technology (ICT) and relevant computer applications as applicable to the running of a modern library.
Have a strong knowledge of current Library technologies, including e-resource management and digital platforms.
Possess excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
Not be older than 55 years of age at the time of appointment.
Terms and Conditions of Service
The Institute Librarian shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years only on such terms and conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment.
The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Librarian In all Federal Research Institutes in Nigeria and as may be determined from time to time by the Federal Government and Governing Council of the Institute.
