Location: Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Description
The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), an associate member of the International Cricket Council (ICC), is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance Officer to join our dynamic team.
This role is critical to ensuring transparent, compliant, and efficient financial management in line with ICC governance standards, Nigerian laws, and the NCF Financial Procedures and Control Manual.
The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional with deep expertise in QuickBooks for transaction posting, bank reconciliation, and reporting in a not-for-profit environment. You will support budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and day-to-day accounting operations to safeguard Federation resources and support our mission of growing cricket across Nigeria.
Key Responsibilities
Post all daily financial transactions accurately and timely in QuickBooks (including revenues, expenditures, restricted/unrestricted funds, grants, and event-related items).
Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all NCF accounts (Naira and foreign currency), identifying and resolving discrepancies within set timelines.
Prepare accurate month-end and year-end closures, including accruals, adjustments, trial balances, and supporting schedules.
Assist in the preparation of budget performance reports, variance analysis (actual vs. budget), and quarterly forecasts for the Finance Committee and Board.
Manage accounts payable/receivable processes, including invoice verification, payments, receipts, and aged reports.
Support payroll processing, staff advances/retirements, expense reimbursements, and compliance with PAYE, pensions, VAT, withholding taxes, and other statutory obligations.
Ensure proper classification and tracking of restricted funds (e.g., ICC grants) and maintain separate records/accounts as required.
Contribute to annual budgeting, event-specific budgets, cash flow forecasting, and ICC compliance reporting (e.g., audited accounts submission within 6 months).
Maintain fixed asset register, inventory records, and support internal/external audits.
Adhere strictly to internal controls, segregation of duties, anti-corruption policies, and the NCF Conflicts of Interest Policy.
Provide training/support to staff on QuickBooks usage and financial procedures as needed.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (professional qualification such as ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent is an advantage).
3–5 years of progressive experience in finance/accounting roles, preferably in a not-for-profit, NGO, sports federation, or grant-funded organization.
Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop/Online) is mandatory — must demonstrate hands-on expertise in:
Posting/journal entries for complex not-for-profit transactions (restricted/unrestricted funds, grants).
Performing and reviewing bank reconciliations.
Generating financial reports, budget vs. actuals, and performance dashboards.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles (accrual basis, IFRS for not-for-profits, GAAP equivalents).
Proven experience in budget performance reporting, variance analysis, and forecasting.
Familiarity with Nigerian tax laws (PAYE, VAT, WHT, pensions) and ICC financial compliance requirements is highly desirable.
Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and analytical skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables) and other MS Office tools.
High ethical standards, integrity, and ability to handle confidential information.
Preferred Skills:
Experience in sports federations, youth/development organizations, or ICC/ donor-funded projects.
Knowledge of fund accounting, grant management, and restricted fund tracking.
Certification or training in QuickBooks (e.g., Intuit ProAdvisor).
What We Offer
Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Opportunity to contribute to the growth of cricket in Nigeria.
Professional development, including QuickBooks training and exposure to international standards.
Supportive team environment aligned with NCF's values of integrity, transparency, and excellence.
