Job purpose
The BBC Media Action office in Nigeria is seeking a Senior Finance Officer to oversee finance and accounting functions in a multimedia production for a multi-component Social and Behaviour Change Communication (SBCC) programme focused on reproductive health and child spacing in Northern Nigeria.
The Senior Finance Officer will utilise their accounting experience to manage the project’s finances, including budgets, statutory compliance, financial reports, and challenge numbers, and to support the project's financial management.
The role reports to the Finance Manager and will work closely with other departments and project partners.
Main duties and responsibilities
Ensure that sound financial methodology and high-quality accounting and reporting are firmly embedded throughout the project delivery.
Deliver effective financial management, control and advisory support to optimise project performance.
Ensures the provision of a full range of payment services is available while maintaining a reliable control environment and ensuring the most effective use of these systems and processes.
Ensure the production of robust, timely and accurate financial information that takes into account risk levels and identifies mitigation as appropriate.Project the financial implications of forecasts and reforecast budgets accordingly.
Hold budget holders accountable for financial performance.
Provide financial information to relevant stakeholders and ensure that all statutory reporting obligations are met.
Provide support in the delivery of value for money and efficiency in the short-term financial issues
Ensure effective governance, risk management and internal compliance processes and controls are followed in project spend.
Lead on audit liaison and assist with departmental deliverables, including audit reporting, follow-up of audit actions and resource planning.
Stay informed and ensure compliance with changes in corporate governance and statutory requirements.
Improve efficiency and controls of financial processes, methodologies and environments.
Provide technical accounting and financial reporting.
Required skills, knowledge, and experience
Professional accounting qualification: ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
Experience of supporting the delivery of effective financial systems and controls.
Experience of working with financial accounting systems and the ability to understand, interpret and communicate complex financial data to a range of audiences.
Understanding of safeguarding, consent and risk management considerations in media production.
