Job Title: State Clinical Mentor
Locations: Gombe, Kano, Lagos, and Rivers
Background
The IMPAACT4HIV project is a 3.5-year grant, led by the Aurum Institute across six countries: South Africa, Mozambique, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Côte d'Ivoire, Sierra Leone, and Nigeria, to strengthen sustainable, evidence-based interventions for improved AHD outcomes.
As the consortium lead in Nigeria, our organization launched implementation of the IMPAACT4HIV Project in 2024, providing technical assistance to the Federal Ministry of Health to adopt and implement the World Health Organization's STOP AIDS package of care in Nigeria.
The pilot is currently ongoing across 21 facilities in four states (Gombe, Kano, Lagos, and Rivers).
Through the project, we support capacity building of National and facility-level healthcare workers to advance access to quality Pediatric Advanced HIV Disease care and treatment packages for children and Adolescents in Nigeria.
Responsibilities
Provide on-site clinical mentorship to health care workers on HIV treatment according to the national guidelines, and pediatric advanced HIV disease (PAHD) using the WHO STOPAIDS tool kit.
Provide training through clinical consultation, assisting local health care workers to identify key bottlenecks affecting patients’ access to Pediatric (ART) and PAHD, helping them with direct patient care as needed
FQIT Oversight: establish and work with facility quality improvement teams in the design, implementation, and evaluation of CQI activities on PAHD and ensure the integration of CQI principles into program development and implementation.
Root Cause Analysis: Conduct root cause analyses for identified issues or challenges, working collaboratively with relevant teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.
Support PAHD service integration into routine pediatric care and treatment.
Work with community partners in the supported state to provide required TA and facilitate a handshake between community and facility programs.
Ensure standard operating procedures and job aids for the provision of PAHD at the health facility in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders. This may include troubleshooting patient flow issues, track defaulters, or clarifying referral pathways by developing appropriate algorithms.
Engage with GoN stakeholders at various levels, including SASCP, to ensure smooth stakeholder management.
Submit a monthly report on mentorship and technical assistance activities, as well as findings and recommendations for strengthening PAHD services at the health facility and compliance with the national treatment guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
Must possess a Degree in Medicine or related Clinical Sciences.
Postgraduate qualification or Master's-level training in Public Health or a relevant field is an added advantage.
Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience with clinical HIV and AIDS care, including Advanced HIV Disease management.
Must have at least 2 years’ experience with program planning, assessment, and implementation of HIV clinical care programs. Experience in the provision of HIV clinical training.
Good knowledge of current trends and normative guidance (national and international) in HIV clinical care and service delivery.
Experience in coordinating multi-disciplinary HIV clinical teams for effective service delivery.
Experience in coordinating community programs/partners is an added advantage.
Willingness to travel to clinics and hospitals in assigned geographical areas within the State
