Procurement Officer at Lekki Freeport Terminal (LFT)

Lekki Freeport Terminal (LFT) operates as the container terminal at Lekki Deep Sea Port, which is Nigeria's first true deep-sea port and one of the most advanced maritime gateways in West Africa. Strategically positioned within the Lagos Free Zone in Ibeju-Lekki, LFT is dedicated to connecting global trade to Nigeria in a sustainable manner, utilising robust automation, digitisation, and innovation from the moment vessels board to the delivery of cargo while adhering to international safety standards.

The terminal takes advantage of deep water, with a draft of up to 16.5 m, and modern ship-to-shore capabilities, enabling it to accommodate large vessels and handle significant cargo volumes. This is part of a port complex designed to scale for millions of TEUs annually. The depth and infrastructure of the terminal contribute to reducing logistics costs and alleviating congestion along the Lagos corridor, establishing LFT as a key driver of regional trade growth.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Procurement Officer

Location: Ibeju Lekki, Lagos

Position Summary

• With the supervision of the procurement supervisor, this position is expected to support the delivery of processes and procedures set in the procurement team to achieve results in a timely manner, as non-delivery has a direct impact on the terminal's ability to function.

Key Responsibilities

• Under the supervision of the procurement supervisor, monitors the level of inventory, supplies of equipment and equipment parts for the company.
• Files purchase requisitions.
• Keeps record of tender of bids and ensure appropriate fillings.
• Follows procedures for procurement policy made by the CFO.
• Complies lists used in selecting vendors based on capabilities, performance, and consistent quality assurance.
• Maintains rapport and good working relationships with vendors; keeps accurate vendor records.
• Follows the process set for purchase orders as necessary and ensures delivery of purchased items uninterrupted.
• Performs other purchasing or inventory control duties as necessary or as requested.
• Ensures that he/she follows the proper inventory control system put in place and carefully monitors stock positions, reports levels and obsolescence of stock.
• Carry out regular stock reviews with the store team and check‑ups to confirm actual quantities, spot shortages early, and ensure materials are available when needed.
• Monitor and manage auto‑PRs generated from inventory levels, making sure they are accurate, timely, and align with technical and operational requirements.

Critical Qualifications

• Requires a College Degree in Business Management, or related discipline. Some formal instruction in engineering or an engineering-related experience is helpful.
• Requires at least one year of purchasing experience in private industry, preferably in shipping or transportation industry.
• Have knowledge of procurement practices and principles.
• Understanding an ERP and understands and some complexity between Inventory, Procurement and Finance systems.
• Demonstrated negotiation skills.
• Exercise sound business judgment to set direction and establish priorities.
• Requires verbal and written communications skills in English at the advanced level.
• Requires analytical skills, including the ability to extract, compile and analyze data.
• Must be able to understand basic finance and accounting principles to control budgets & costs.
• Knowledge of contract laws and conditions.
• Very high ethical standards.
