Job Title: Head, Legal and Corporate Relations
Location: Abuja (FCT)

Job Summary
The Head, Legal and Corporate Relations shall provide leadership and strategic direction to the department, ensuring alignment with the organization’s objectives.
The officer will be responsible for executing all Executive Directives assigned to the department, formulating and advising on legal strategies, and identifying issues that may affect company operations.
Responsibilities include assigning tasks to staff, supervising unit heads, drafting and reviewing court processes, leading litigation, and advising on general principles of law as they relate to the company’s business.
The officer shall ensure compliance with corporate policies, attend executive and partner meetings as assigned, and provide daily, weekly, and monthly reports on departmental activities. Additional tasks may be undertaken as directed by Executive Management.
Must demonstrate strong leadership skills, providing clear strategic guidance to the Legal and Corporate Relations team. Ability to align departmental objectives with organizational goals and ensure effective execution of executive directives.
Legal Expertise & Advisory:
Possesses deep knowledge of corporate, commercial, and litigation law. Capable of formulating legal strategies, advising management on complex issues, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Litigation & Case Management:
Proven ability to lead litigation teams, draft and review court processes, and represent the company effectively in legal proceedings. Must ensure accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism in all legal documentation.
Governance & Compliance:
Strong understanding of governance frameworks and compliance standards. Ability to monitor adherence to policies, maintain accurate records, and ensure corporate interactions comply with internal and external requirements.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement:
Excellent communication skills to interact with executive management, partners, regulators, and stakeholders. Must be able to prepare clear reports, facilitate meetings, and represent the company in high level engagements.
Supervision & Team Management:
Ability to assign tasks, supervise unit heads, and monitor departmental performance. Must foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team.
Discretion & Confidentiality:
Demonstrates integrity and discretion in handling sensitive information. Must uphold confidentiality protocols and ensure secure management of legal and corporate records.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education: Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) and Barrister at Law (B.L) from a recognized institution. Master’s degree in Law, Business, or related field is an added advantage.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years’ cognate experience in corporate law, litigation, and legal advisory, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
Professional Certification: Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and other relevant professional bodies.
Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of corporate governance, compliance frameworks, and litigation processes. Proficiency in drafting legal documents and managing complex cases.
Analytical Skills: Ability to identify legal risks, propose solutions, and support strategic decision making.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to synthesize complex legal issues into actionable insights.
Personal Attributes: Integrity, leadership, situational awareness, and ability to anticipate industry trends and risks.
